I need some advice people. Using Japanese cotton on a kayfun lite clone and cannot get it to produce a decent flavour. Only been building for a few weeks so I know it's gonna take practice but it's getting very frustrating. I've watched vids and tried all sorts but am now wondering if it could be a common issue with some clones. Any tips or advice would be much appreciated. Thanks.

A good place to start is what mod are you using? What ohm is the coil? One thing is you can't pack down the cotton in the juice channels. You maybe using too much cotton or not enough and you are getting dry hits. The videos show the building of a Kayfun from start to finish and if you watch them again you may see what you are doing wrong. Some clones are lacking deep channels for the juice to flow into. You also have a air flow screw on the bottom of the kayfun. It might be closed and you can open it up or even take the screw out to keep more air flow.

Edit: You do need to soak the coil and cotton well with ejuice. I'm sure you noticed in the videos you watched. The other thing is not to fill your kayfun to the top it needs a air pocket so the vacuum system of the kayfun will work. Most videos don't mention the filling in fact I watched one where he filled it to the top.

It will be some trial and error to get it "right". Different wick material will require a different "volume" of material. For instance, in my experience you need to use more cellucotton (synthetic) than you do with organic cotton or Japanese cotton for similar results.

I use the Kayfun Nest method of wicking my Kayfun Lite Plus.

That air pocket is one of the most important things. You wouldn't think that would be all that critical, but it is. Whenever I overfill it, and I can tell by the low vapor and slightly burnt taste, I just vape thru it, or draw without firing...I know it will improve when I get the liquid level down.

That nest build looks interesting. Not sure I understand why that would work or how, but I will give it a try.

What's the diameter of your coil? I started with 1/16" coils, and sparse cotton, but I would constantly get dry hits and the like. I moved up to a 1/8" coil, and things are SOOOOO, much better. Lots more flavor and vapor without the burnt hits... I also use 28g kanthal on the kayfuns (all of mine are clones)

Coils wrapped at 2.5 also using 28 kanthal. I suspect that my wicks have been a bit too tight through the coil so used less cotton last night and it seems to be performing a lot better.

2mm or 2,5 mm works fine for me. Easier to get the cotton through the coil. Cotton needs to touch coil but still can be pulled right or left without bunching.

Learning how to gauge the amount of cotton does take trial and error. I use a 2.5mm screwdriver and 28 gauge kanthal. The cotton should slide inside the coil without bunching up too much. I put the chimney section on and cut the tails to just over the top. Then use a micro screwdriver to push it down in and then I soak the cotton with juice. I then use the screwdriver to make sure the cotton is pulled away from the juice feed holes. Then cap the chimney, put the tank together and fill it. Draw a few times to see bubbles and vape away.
