Kayfun Lite+ Issues! Please Help!

Hi, I'm Matt, I'm brand new to this site and I need some help with my kayfun Lite+. I've had it for about a month and a half and things started off well enough, but lately it's been extremely inconsistent. Sometimes when I hit it it tastes/vapes perfectly fine, but other times it tastes burnt or kind of like metal and at times the draw seems more restrictive or the vape is more dense than normal. It also pops juice at me a lot which is extremely annoying. I noticed tonight that it's been getting and staying noticeably warm which worries me. It also randomly leaks on me out of the side air hole and when I take it off of my mod, the top of my mod is wet EVERY TIME! I honestly have no idea what suddenly went wrong? I've been using the same build since I got it up until tonight when I tried something different.

I generally use 28 gauge wire with organic cotton balls and build between 1.3-1.6 ohm coils with the coil going horizontally across the air hole. Tonight I tried a chimney build as well as a diagonal build, but neither of them fixed any of my issues.

I clean it every 2-3 fills or when I change flavor/coil which usually ends up being 1-2 times a week. I don't know if that plays a factor at all?

This Kayfun is definitely defeating me and it's making me feel all ate up lol any and all help is greatly appreciated!

I had similar issues. I assume you're using the KFL+V2?

First, the metallic and burnt taste. I found that I was using too much or too little cotton for the wick. Too much and it burned after a day of use. Too little and I'd get poor or metallic flavor. There's a sweet spot for the wicks and it took some trial and error.

Restrictive draw: My center post turned on me which made for a restrictive draw (and eventual short). Check your center post and ensure that it's tight.

Leaking:
Out of the bottom and I discovered that my fill screw o-ring was damaged. I replaced it and the issue went away.

Out of the side airhole was fixed by blowing through this hole after a refill...it pushes the extra liquid out of the chimney and back into the tank.

Leaking is caused by loss of vacuum. In another instance, i discovered that a recent fall had created a gap between the plastic window and steel tank, I disassembled the tank carefully and found the threads to be in good shape, reassembled and it worked like new.

Check all of your o-rings in the tank. It's possible they've been damaged during use/cleaning. Cleaning 1-2 times a week seems like a lot anyway?

Believe me, I understand the frustration. The last time I had a kayfun leak, I was sitting in a casino at a blackjack table. Took a pull off the tank, reached out to wave off the dealer with a hand covered in oil and a mess on my shirt.

^^^^^^^^^ That pretty much covers all potential problems. Make sure youre screwing everything together properly. If the threads are screwed in wrong, it will leak. If you see a gap anywhere between the top cap/base and the middle section, it will leak. Youll have to play around with wicking a little bit to get it right. Take mental notes on how youre wicking, how much cotton, where the cotton lays on the deck, dont cover the airholes with cotton because that will cause dry/burnt hits. Good luck!

Only thing to add is... the center post has cross holes drilled across the post where it lines up with the air hole in the base. Using a toothpick or paperclip, check the alignment.

Thank you guys! Now that you mention it, I do recall noticing the o-ring on my fill screw being a bit loose, but I didn't think anything of it because it came like that. I'll swap that out and hope that solves that issue! I do have a few more questions though. Now I've seen different ways of laying the cotton and it's sort of caused me to second guess what I've been doing. Some tuts show the cotton just crammed into the cylinder of the chimney and others show it running nicely down the wall onto the deck with a small gap between the cotton and the cylinder walls, I've been trying to do the latter. Is that correct? Or is it a matter of preference? Then is the center post the air hole that the coil hovers over? I just want to be sure on that. Lastly, can cleaning it too frequently be harmful in any way? I have a tendency to bounce between a few different flavors. Generally I'll go 2-4 fills and get bored with the flavor and then clean everything out when I swap. The average tank probably lasts me about a day to a day and a half so I do clean it quite regularly.

I was enjoying my KFL+ for about 2 months when I began having leaking issues thru the air hole on the side. I've lost nearly 15 ml of good juice thru the airhole, and then it began to also leak thru the drip tip if the KFL+ was turned upside down. I hadn't changed the way I make my coil or wicks over this time and I've inspected the connections as described above. Definitely an issue with negative pressure in the tank. My guess is the top o-ring has become damaged and needs to be replaced.

Now I need to find the box it came in to get the extra o-ring.

I'm a newbie and started with the Kayfun Lite+ as well and I spent a couple of frustrating weeks messing around trying to get things right.

Things I've learned so far:
1) Certain cotton pads are poor wicks and they get burned easily. Since changing to another brand, I no longer experience the cotton browning after weeks of use.
2) Saw a youtube video of a user placing the coil perpendicular to the posts for easier insertion of wicks. Tried and it seems to give that metallic taste.
3) placing the coils too far away from the air vent gives poor vapour production
4) using too much cotton (both thickness and length) causes leaking from the side air hole. now i just make sure that there is wiggle room to slide the cotton through the coils with ease and that there's just enough length to touch the grooves for juice intake

I don't have a ohmmeter so i'm currently using a very small screwdriver to build my coils with 6 loops.

I'm still learning how to wick my Kayfuns so take everything that follows with a grain of salt. My coil sits at a ~45 degree angle to the deck screws. Insert wick. Install chimney cylinder. Wet wick with liquid. I push the wick down onto the deck and angle it toward the vertical juice channel opening (I don't cover it). Finish assembly. Give a couple primer pulls. Try it out.

I've watched quite a few videos. They all have their own way of doing it. I think it's difficult to convey how much cotton you should use. I burned up 4 or 5 wicks and ruined the juice they were in before kinda figuring it out. I think my current wick is actually too thin, but it isn't burning.

The center post is the screwhead on the bottom of the tank that makes contact with your battery. It also holds down the deck terminal that sits on the delrin insulator. The center post is hollow with cut-outs on each side. The opening under the coil is you center post. The cut-outs in the center post line up with the airhole on the exterior of the tank. If the center post is turned so that the cut-out doesn't line up with the exterior air hole, you get a tight draw. Because the center post also holds down the terminal, if it loosens the terminal can turn and short against the wall of the chimney.

Ohhhh ok thanks for clarifying that, makes sense now. So I tried out a juice for the first time in my KF recently and it left a ton of gunk inside the tank, especially on the block where the coil goes. Since I've been having leaking issues, I can only assume there's gunk left behind in the air hole. Could that have a similar effect as if the center post got turned?

I agree with Baditude here. It sounds like your top o-ring is bad & you're losing your vacuum and getting dry hits from lack of proper wicking which in turn is burning your cotton wick. Kayfuns are designed to pull juice to the wick through the juice channels on every draw when it has a proper vacuum. Lack of vacuum makes you lose your back pressure.

Another thing I learned the hard way after my provari took a small fall (roughly 6 inches). Take your kayfun off your mod and make sure the driptip is completely flush & roll it on a flat surface. You shouldn't see any wobble at the driptip end. When I dropped my provari, the top of the kayfun hit first & it knocked my plastic center part of the tank off by one thread. It was almost impossible to see from looking at it but the wobble was undeniable when rolled on a flat surface. If any part of your tank section is off by even one thread it will prevent your top o-ring from coming down squarely onto the top part of the chimney, giving it a hairline gap in the seal.

Happened to me too. Mine was off a couple threads, but they're so fine it isn't readily apparent.


Additionally, my EHPro clone KFL did not come with orings on the plastic tank section. Being a newb, I put it together and had problems. Make sure you have orings between all tank sections.

No, the o-ring is actually inside the top cap. You'll see it recessed in the inside of the top cap.

The kayfun, which I'm vaping from right now, can be very touchy,.if your getting gurgling it's due to too much wick. When you build your coil also make certain you have clearence over the air stem valve, also and this works perfectly for me, make certain the wicking is cut just to the top of the chimney threading where it won't interfere with the chimney. Look closely and you will see the liquid slots on the very upper deck where the chimney screws into. Make the wicking material just barely touch the slots. Then prime the wick with a bit of ejuice and put chimney on. Put tank in. Now the filling is very important because if not done correctly it WILL leak. So what I do is tightly plug both air holes. If your hands are large you can do this with your fingers but if your hands are small like mine, I pack both air holes tightly with cotton in the holes. This is what's going to presurize your tank so make sure it's packed tight. Then put your fingers over the packed cotton where the holes were. Now fill your tank and have top cap ready without drip tip in.your keeping these holes ugh ed through this whole process. Now put on the top cap without the drip tip and keeping holes plugged turn the tank upside down with top cap on. While the tank is upside down remove your finger and cotton from the air holes. Let the air in. Now turn her right side up and put drip tip on do not open her or she will loose pressure. Then put her on your unit and vape. She should have NO gurgling and NO leaking if done correctly. Keep in mind gurgling is a wicking issue or not enough coil clearence over the air valve. Leaking is not enough pressue. Or air got into the holes during fill. This method works like a charm for me! I struggled until I watched a video that told me about this. Now I have NO gurgling or leaking and she works beautifully. Thanks for posting this Despraci, but all the links just go to a page with thousands of O rings on them not to the individual product. I've been looking for replacement O rings for a little while now for my 3.1, do you have the sizes to hand by any chance?

I believe the topcap O-ring size is 5mm x 1.55 mm & tank section O-rings are 19mm x 1 mm.

Just want to let you guys know that this build turned out absolutely wonderful! I swapped the O Ring on my fill screw because the one on there was pretty loose. I used about half the amount of cotton I normally would have, I had been twisting it tightly instead of rolling it out nicely. I paid close attention to how the cotton was laid out too, I'm pretty sure the way I had been doing it was blocking the liquid tunnels. I don't think I was wetting the cotton enough before priming it either. I normally would only put a drop or two on either side before priming. I believe that could have been a contributing factor to the burning taste?? I doused the cotton pretty good this time.

The outcome was amazing! Full flavor, no burnt or metal taste, no leaking, a nice smooth draw! It still pops initially every time I fire it, but I can live with that. I could tell immediately that I had done it correctly because after the first hit I got a small buzz haha Thank you all for your input and help, I greatly appreciate it!
