I ordered another KFL+ after selling my first one cuz I missed it. I just set this one up for the first time last night because I was waiting for another nano kit.

I washed all the parts like I normally do and proceeded to build a coil. I made a micro coil at 1.6ohms, using organic cotton balls; same as I always do.

Everything went together just fine. Then I took my first draw: BLECH!!! There's some strange sweet(ish) gross flavour coming from it and I have no idea why. I don't think it's dry burning, unless that tastes differently with this set up compared to other set ups with ekowool, because I've tasted dry burns before.

It kinda reminds me of the smell of burning paper, but only tastes like it. What'd I do wrong?

Took it apart, wick looked totally fine. Tested it on my ohm meter, 1.76 ohms, no short, no burns on wick.

Washed everything, rebuilt and used different juice. Still tastes funny?!

The coil glows evenly, starts in the center and moves outwards.. I tested it before I assembled everything, and re-tested it with a bit of juice dabbed on it to make sure it was firing properly, as well as used the ohm meter again before filling with juice.. read 1.8 ohms.

I dunno. Maybe it's time for new juice... the stuff that's in there is kinda gross anyway, so I guess it's hard to tell what the problem is now.

Yah, I'd be inclined to agree with you however I've been using the same stuff for builds for a couple weeks now and this is the first time (two times I guess) that it's tasted funny.

I'll try puffing on it a bit to see if it gets any better. Not going to inhale it though, that's for sure.. not til I know what's up.

I don't know first hand, as I haven't got one yet, but I have read many people say they had machine oil trapped under the insulator on the top positive stud, as well as the insulator on the 510 center pin that caused a nasty taste for them. It was said once they tore it down completely removing both insulators, they then did a dish soap bath, a quick boil, and was good to go when put back together. I know you said you cleaned it, but wasn't sure sure how far down you disassembled it for the cleaning.

Yup machine oil. Cleaned mine 4 times before it got it all out. Nasty!

Ok, I didn't take it apart that much. Looks like that's what I'm gonna have to do. I hope I don't lose anything.. I seem to be rather clumsy these days with small parts. *fingers crossed*

Exactly. I washed mine thoroughly and kept rebuilding thinking it was my build... No it kept tasting like something chemically sweet but unpleasant. A gross taste. I finally took o rings, every piece a part and washed it with soap then soaked it in hot water... Then rinsed it thoroughly. Now that taste is gone. So...I know the taste you mean... In my washing I found some dark oil looking substances stuck under the o rings in some spots... I sniffed it and it smelled like that taste. Yuck.

Oh man I have to take the o-rings off too? :(

Any tips on how to do that without tearing the crap out of them? Last time I tried to remove an o-ring I tore it apart.. then another one.. then another one.. then admitted to myself I wasn't very good at removing o-rings.

I've got everything soaking in a soap bath right now. I'm going to rinse everything off and wash again with hot water and soap, then wipe every individual piece with alcohol swabs (70% isopropyl), then another hot water/soap wash. Hopefully that does it.

Did you remove the 510 center pin? Mine's on there awfully tight. Last Kayfun I had was a PITA to screw down the coil screws after removing that center pin. It loosened everything up.

Ok got it all cleaned and back together again. Used another juice (NET juice).. seems to be somewhat better, but I'm not getting much flavour. They're all sorta tasting the same. Then I switched to my dripper and it's the same thing, I'm just not tasting anything.

Vaping shouldn't be this frustrating. After all these years, I STILL haven't found a juice that I really like, nor have I experienced all this flavour people constantly talk about.

I think this is why I usually end up selling everything and giving up. Then catch the bug again 8 months later and start buying stuff again, hoping, praying, that it somehow magically works for me this time.

NatureBoy, look at my blog post below my name on the left. I did a thread just about cleaning the kayfun.

To take off orings, I pinch them together in 1 spot. It will lift out of its channel and you can slide a toothpick under it and roll it off.
Does that make sense? Seems kind of hard for me to put into words. I'll take a picture if you need a visual. Lemme know.

The o-rings came off without a hitch actually. The problem I had was with the tiny o-ring on the nano chimney I was using. Then I realized the regular size chimney doesn't have an o-ring on this KFL+, but the previous one I had did, so I put one on the nano chimney thinking it was supposed to have one. It was a spare in the bag that came with the KFL+, but I'm not sure what it was for now, because it actually didn't fit very well.

Anyway, I managed to rip it up when I tried to remove it, just like last time. But the bigger o-rings were a piece of cake to remove.

I put mine in a bowl of isopropyl alcohol swished all the parts around then wash with dawn soap and hot water. The alcohol got rid of all the machine oil. Suppose you could use vodka also. Used a little pipe cleaner thing for baby bottle air holes to get in all the threads and small places.

Ps. Never removed my O-rings
