I just built a 1.4 ohm coil on my kayfun lite and fired it on my ProVari. It fired a couple times and then I got the E1 error message. (Damaged atomizer or lower voltage.) I was firing at 3.6 volts. I tried to change the voltage, and then I got a "LO" message and the device wouldn't function. Finally it let me change the settings, I lowered the voltage to 3.5 and now it seems to work fine. Does anyone have any idea what happened? My primary concern is that I could be damaging something. If anyone has any ideas-please help! I'm brand new to rebuilding and need all the assistance I can get. Thanks!

Have you rechecked your coil? Sounds like you have an intermittent short. Possibly from the coil being a little off or a leg bridging the two blocks on the deck. If the positive block rotates a little it can happen as well. If you can post a picture of the build, that could be helpful in diagnosing the problem as well.

So I just built my 1st coil on my genuine kayfun lite plus v2 and put it on my Provari. Ohm reads as 1.4 on my meter, MVP and the ProVari itself. Strange thing is I can't vape past 3.4 volts without getting hit with the E1 "lower your voltage" error message. Granted I'm an extreme rebuilding noob, but I thought you could vape higher voltages with kanthal wire. Does anyone have any advice? My major concern is that I'm going to break something. Thanks for any help!

So my very first build was a 1.4 ohm coil that my ProVari would shoot an E1 error message at anytime I went over 3.4 volts-but it tasted awesome. That was isolated to a short caused by one of my coil wires touching the chimney. So I tore that one down and, like a kid with Legos, started all over again. I just built a rather beautiful, if I do say so myself, 2 ohm coil that my ProVari lets me crank up as much as I desire. (within reason of course) It, however, tastes like alkaline burnt popcorn and I'm getting almost no vapor. It's like a really bad dry hit. One thing I didn't do this tome that I did last time was coat the coil and the wick with a good amount of juice before assembling the chimney. I forgot and left them almost totally dry. Could this be the culprit? If so, how do I fix it? I tried vaping with the air hole covered to try to suck juice to the coil to no avail. I think it also bears mention that the air hole whistles as it didn't before. I love vaping and am having fun rebuilding despite these issues. I just need a little guidance. Thanks so much for any help! You guys are great!

Sounds like it's not wicking as well as your first build, too - or it would have corrected itself.
Though it's also possible that the first hit "toasted" your wick, and a burnt flavor will NEVER go away without replacing it...
What IS your wick? Silica?
I'm no expert, but I've found wicking a Russian (same thing) to be kind of "finicky" -
But your beautiful coil isn't a loss - you just MAY want to consider draining the juice, opening it up, and re-wicking it...

Also, come on over anytime to the ProVari threads (here's one - casual chat), where's there's a bunch of rebuildable advisors that hang out!
(there are a ton of threads on wicking a kayfun, too - I just know some of the Provari people and they're eager to help out).
