I spent some time today putting together a short wicking guide for kayfun Style Atomizers for the first time users that would like to try with a cotton build.
This should work for any Kayfun style atomizer - All Kayfun, Russians, Rocket tanks, etc.

It is only one way, but a way that has consistently worked for me on every tank from my first attempt. We all know there are many ways to build these so please don't shoot the messenger. This is just to help newcomers get going and realize the potential or these devices.

Lastly - Never worked a Blog before so the 3 post it took are inverted. Not sure how to organize in order.

Hope it helps

thank you for taking the time to make this. Bookmarked.

I am a newbie with the kayfun. I was making cotton wick one day, silica the next trying to get a good working kayfun. Neither would work well as I didn't clean it well enough. I thought i did, toothbrush and all. But after many cleanings, just so happened my use of silica landed on the day it worked without the machine oil taste. I was switching back and forth with cotton and silica.

So when i feel this build is done, i am going to try your cotton build. What kind of time period can you expect with cotton. I know we all vape different amounts, juices. Can you expect a few days, a week out of cotton ?.

I actually stopped trying to figure Days - Every tank is a little different(lots of flavors)
My least time build has been 5 tanks and my best so far is still running clean on its 10th tank.
All my e-liquids are based on a 50/50 mix
Even with my collection, I only avg. 2-3hrs a month or less on cleaning/building/rebuilding.

I started rewicking mine every 2-3 tanks, just because I don't like seeing any blackish junk or discoloring when I take that chimney off...

Yes, again - this will be juice/temperature/mix specific.
Darker e-liquids, very high VG e-liquids, sweet e-liquids may gunk things up sooner.
Light to clear e-liquids tend to take much longer to effect wicking capability.

In my build, it allows for a lighter wick in the channels as well as making up for any undersized wicking issues.
It also acts as a reserve. pooling e-liquid slightly above the wick and holding it until drawn out.
I haven't had any issues with flooding, with exception of forced fill flooding(dang Nano) and can Chain Vape without getting dry hits.
Though things can get a bit warm if working the coil in quick repetition.:)

I guess this is my way of making sure Less is more works.:2cool:

Just wondering, what is the point of the "nest"? I haven't seen anyone else doing this. Currently trying to get the wicking perfect in my kfl clone.
I was going to ask the same question? Beside the juice drops placed during install, will this cotton ever see juice or be beneficial?

EDIT: It looks like OP posted answer at the same time as I posted
And I have found with many builds and trial and error.... cutting cotton at the base is a good guide as OP said

This is the first build I tried on my KEBO R91 when I first got it. Worked great, produced a nice warm vape. I've since used this same build for wicking my Taifun GS which additionally incorporates hollow SS mech feeder wicks that feed tank juice through the Taifuns chamber cap directly to the cotton nest which in turn feeds the wick.

Saw a previous post where navy nest was referenced by crxess and I had to do further research with the advanced search function. Thanks for creating the blog. Have been getting great result with this build.

About one week ago, after reading this, I said what the hey, lets throw a ring on top. Previously, I would get some dry hits every morning, with a full tank and fresh battery. Well, this thing was like a little halo, protecting me from dry hits. It wasn't perfect, because an almost completely full tank plus fresh battery just doesn't mesh well in a kayfun, but I definitely noticed a HUGE drop off in the amount of dry hits I would get in the morning. I also left the same wick/nest in there for the whole week, about 8-9 tanks, way longer than I used to. Interestingly, the wick itself didn't have much gunk on it at all, but the "nest" had quite a bit more...

Just to see how it goes, I removed a wrap from my coil today, bringing it down to 1.1 ohms. This may be fun, just to see how far I can push it.

That looks like a Nemesis with the black aluminum tubes in 18350
With the top cap and bottom switch from a brass Nemesis. Or perhaps a mixed. I believe they did a brass and stainless steel mixed with the ends being brass.

I went crazy when FastTech offered the colored tubes. Bought a stainless, brass then copper Nemesis and black, blue, red and purple tube set figuring I'd pick and choose which combos I liked once everything was in front of me. Only cost about $120 for the whole lot. FastTech is offering single battery versions, that is just 1 size colored aluminum tube with brass or stainless top cap and bottom switch for under $20. Only drawback is the tube length and end cap choices are theirs, ie can only get black in 18500 size with brass as an example, you'd have to look yourself to see what the actual offerings are.

I too, had the same observation that gunk built up on the cotton nest rather than the cotton coil wick after vaping multiple tanks on the KFL+. Also wondering if the nest results in reducing the size of the chamber, thus producing a more flavorful vape. Any thoughts on this?

I didn't notice much difference in flavor, I'm thinking the chamber size isn't really reduced, because the ring is pretty much below or even with the coil and the vapor is just goes up, past it.

I gave this a whirl. Not my speed. It's almost a stifled vape when that whole ring gets saturated. I do like a cooler vape, not so much a hot one and yeah. I thought maybe I could get even more flavor out of my build so I tried it.

My menthol tastes better ice cold.

I haven't noticed any stifling, but I do have my air hole drilled to 3/32 and center pin to 5/64.
