This is not a Provari issue per se but applies to the TrustFire charger I purchased along with my Provari mini. I wanted to mention this because I'm assuming a lot of other people, like me, got this charger too.

Today I was doing my regular battery testing with a multimeter to check voltage fresh off the TrustFire TR-001 charger and noticed that the cord at the charger end has come apart (cracked) at the insertion point into the part that plugs into the charger. The red and blue wires are exposed and the red one is cracked so that I can see the copper wire inside. This charger is now permanently out of commission.

I bought all my stuff on April 13 and received it April 16; so I've been using it for less than a month. What is odd about this is that I have never once done anything like wrap the cord up in any way. It sits out at all times. I do unplug it from the wall, but the only other thing I do is to slide the charger into a LiPo bag, which requires that the cord at the damaged end be straight so it will fit through the corner hole of the LiPo bag; no bending.

I'm fairly new to mods (my first two I bought about a couple of weeks prior to my Provari) so I'm wondering what to make of this. Did I just get a bad one, or have other people had issues with this charger? I'm aware of Pila chargers and am wondering if that's the way to go, even if they are expensive.

Any input would be greatly apppreciated!

Sounds like a cheap or defective cord packaged with your charger. They are mass produced and vary in quality. I've never had issues with one but have read here from time to time of people who have, similar issues to yours.

You could get a replacement cord but cost with shipping unless you could find somewhere local probably wouldn't be worth it. Might just want to invest in another charger and if it uses the same style charger connector you'd have a backup charger.

My charger blew apart a month ago when I plugged it in. I guess that the wires became exposed like yours are but I didn't see them until it was too late. I didn't have a fire but the bang sure scared me for a moment!.. Good idea... keep a check on your charger cords, especially where they enter the charger.

You're probably right. I suspect I just got a crappy cord. I went ahead and ordered a Pila and another TR-001 to use as a backup, so I'll also have the extra charger. They are pretty inexpensive, so no big deal. I imagine electrical tape would probably be ok.....I'm just the worrier type!

Thank you all for input.

The only bad part is that I have no backup charger for mod batteries right now (hadn't gotten to that yet!), so I'm stuck with eGo's, Kr8's, etc. :( I've been spoiled by the Provari.

The pila really is fantastic. i've never ever ever pulled a battery off it without meetering 4.18 steady.

Just got mine today and I'm getting the same thing. The batteries are warmer coming off the charger (warmer than with the TR-001) ...... but I wouldn't say hot. It does seem to charge a little faster, so maybe that's why.

This is a great charger and probably the safest on the market. Good choice! :)

The warmth generally comes from the 'rapid charge' stage.
