I keep burning my cotton ball wicks on the daily in my Nova. At the end of the day, the darn thing is black and tastes very cottony. Vapor production is good, but I'm starting to shake my head. Throughout its life, the vape tastes very strongly of cotton, and it makes my throat feel like somebody rubbed a blanket on it. I can barely taste the juice. I'm almost dumbfounded. I usually let the wicks soak for approx 10 minutes, and I wrap 4 coils of 32g kanthal around a toothpick. I have been tightly rolling the cotton ball into a string like shape, then poking it through the assembled head. Usually the fit has been slightly loose to allow for expansion. Try as I might, the darn thing is still popping the next day, and it still tastes like I'm inhaling the cotton ball instead of the vapor. Anybody got any ideas? I'm considering scrapping cotton and going to SS.

Thanks

Oh, also I have been double boiling the cotton.

You can try reading thru these threads that cover using cotton wicks. Cotton takes hours to soak to fully saturate. Hope it helps.

I was having a similar issue with my vivis after building my own coils. I have started building the coil then removing the wick to continue oxidizing the coil after installing it back in the head. I then "re-thread" the coil and let the cotton soak for an hour or so, in the tank, before vaping on it. seems to be working pretty well

My experience with cotton balls has been the opposite. They tend to over-wick and flood, if I'm not careful, making them sluggish to get up to temperature.

That is using a slightly higher resistance wire (32 gauge nichrome 80) and a round toothpick to wrap it around. I would guess that I might have been using a less dense wick than you are. Perhaps using a bit less material, and not twisting as tightly, may help.

Maybe it depends on the type of cotton you are using or brand. I'm using the 100% cotton roll from CVS and I double boiled it and it's been just fine. No bad taste at all. I also can just wet the cotton real good with drops of juice and vape almost immediately. My cotton seems to soak up fast and stay moist. It usually lasts me about a week. It's possible you may need to try a different cotton source? Not sure.

Here's what I use with no problem. It's around $5 and a huge amount so it should last a really long time. 5042895549.jpg

Is it possible you are twisting it too tight or that maybe it is getting choked in the sides of the ceramic cup so that its not wicking well? Just a thought. I twist the piece of cotton with some Ejuice on my two fingers into a thinner piece and then I hold it with a sewing needle and wrap my coil around it. Then while its still attached with the needle going through the coil, I mount my wires. When all done, I pull the needle out once its seated.
