After a little over a week of testing to see what gave me the throat burn, I believe the main culprit might be the atty (Joye 510) and I have an older model of the 510 but it had a smoother draw and little to no throat burn, unfortunately it died and never came back. I've tested different flavors of juice, different strengths, and from different companies, all of them gave me throat burns on the newer Joye 510.

Has anyone noticed this on the Joye 510 or is it just me?

Can anyone recommend me a atty model that has a smoother draw/throat hit please? Currently I am using a Protege with the "throat killing" 510 and it isn't a pleasant experience on my part.

Thanks

I just opened up one of my nHaler attys and noticed the draw was a lot less "harsh" for lack of a better word than the Totally Wicked attys I was using. Took a little getting used to because that "harshness" imitated an analog GREAT, lol. Maybe try some 510 attys from Nhaler, could just be me, or the atty I was using, but I did notice a large difference.

As far a guide goes, here is an online e-juice calculator that is easiest way to mix (IMO)
eJuice Recipe Calculator. You just put the nicotine strength you have for mixing, the nic strength you want to make, and % amount of flavoring (like 20% for example) and hit ENTER, and it will calculate how many drops/mls to add for you.

The 910 is similiar size-wise, and has a much smoother throat hit. You can get a 510-901 adapter from AltSmoke (and they sell 801 and 901 attys as well).

If you want smoothness with volume of vapor/nicotine hit, an 801 is like a giant 901, with a cart that holds tons of juice. AltSmoke also sells a 510-801 adapter, so you could spend $26 on adapters, $19 on attys and a few bucks on carts and try both the 801 and 901 with your Protege, or spend half as much and only try one: AltSmoke | Personal Vaporizer Atomizers: The Yeti - 510 & DSE901

P.S. As the other poster said, your atty may just not have enough juice on it -- try dripping a couple drops of juice straight on it (with or without a filled cart) and try it before deciding you don't like the 510 -- could be you just don't like the 510 atty primer.

I had the same problem for the last two days or so after cleaning my attys. Also had a harsh almost burned taste and all of my juices tasting the same (burnt) and after dripping some water in them and blowing them out and dripping unflavored vg no nic in them I'm finally getting some of them back to working good again. I beleave I may not have gotten all of the residue out of them and maybe not primed them enough after drying getting the residue burnt onto the attys. Due to the fact when burning them while using the water I got some black chunks when blowing them out after each application of water.

So I decided to buy some VG today and I was wondering on how to mix it and get it all back into the little plastic dripping bottle?

Should I just pour everything (Nic juice) out into a little cup, add the necessary drops of VG, mix it with a spoon or something, and then use a syringe to put it all back into the the drip bottle?

Thanks

very much so, the 510 produces alot of vapor in sacrfice of flavor and overheats very easily leaving u with a burnt atty taste, I gave up on my 510.

Hi Dokebilee! Just mix it directly into the plastic bottle you want to use, and add one ingredient at a time and them shake it up real good. You can either use an eye-dropper and count drops, or use a syringe such as this medicine dropper Buy PharmaSystems Medicine Spoon & Dropper Kit from Canada at Well.ca - Free Shipping
WalMart sells them too.

Or a syringe here The Smokeless Shop There are places that sell just the syringe part without the needle, that's what I use if I'm making bigger batches and don't want to count drops Lol. Most of the time, I just count the drops. (1ml = 20drops) :) and just make smaller bottles.

*NOTE*: "cc" measurement is the same as "ml" (i.e. 1 cc = 1 ml)

I notice that some people are talking about a burning throat, and some people are talking about throat hit. Throat hit feels like a mild quick spasmic burst in your upper throat, and most former smokers want that. It is primarily caused by the nicotine, which causes muscles to contract spasmodically.
Throat burn, though, is like a sore throat feeling that is unpleasant and may linger. It can be caused be a variety of irritants.
If you use a 510, you get more throat hit because it has a higher voltage and hotter running atomizer, which creates thicker vapor, which increases the amount of nicotine in each puff.
If you use a 901, increasing the nicotine level will increase the throat hit. Some other substances can enhance the throat hit of nicotine (such as possibly drinking or grain alcohol), and some have a separate but similar feeling (like cinnamon and menthol, although it's obligatory to mention that cinnamon oil is bad for your atomizer and can kill it prematurely) that can also be described as throat hit.
Excessive quantities of irritating substances (perhaps grain alcohol in my experience?) can cause throat burn, and I would say are definitely to be avoided.
Throat hit is primarily a result of nicotine concentration and vapor density ~= voltage level and atomizer coil hotness.
Throat burn is caused by irritation from vapor and should be avoided. I'm sorry I don't have any more information than that.

I got some really unpleasant throat burn from my 510 also. I inspected the atomizer really closely and found some synthetic fibers stuck under the metal 'wick' part (is that called the bridge?) I had a helluva time getting them out, and was a little concerned about doing so, afraid I might ruin the atomizer. But sure enough, these fibers were burnt.

I thought these fibers might be polyfill from the carts, but nope - it's definitely not the same material. Looks like the same stuff as what they make cheap nylon rope or twine from.

Anybody else seen this material? Is it even necessary for the atty to function correctly? I took it out of mine, and it seems to work OK...
