I wanted to post this in the proper forum, but it's not allowed. Who decided that made sense?

Anyway, I'm considering going to an e-cigarette, or whatever they're commonly called. I'd like to know what recommendations people might have.

I've smoked a pack a day since I was 19, so that's a few years of cigarettes. And in all that time, the only cigarette I've ever bought was Marlboro 100's. Is there one of these that comes closest to a Marlboro 100? I realize it's not going to be exactly the same, but I've read some of the posts here talking about chocolate and strawberry, and that doesn't interest me at all. I'm also not particularly interested in giving up "smoking" - as in eventually weaning off even the electronic version. I like smoking, I like taking smoke breaks at work, and if I'm going to die of something eventually, it might as well be smoking as anything else. However, the smell between cigarettes is annoying. I don't smoke in the house, but when it's raining I go into the garage, and it gets ash on my car. I hate dumping the ashtrays (and so I don't very often, and they get tipped over and then I have to clean up the mess). If there's something that gives me very close to the same experience as the cigarettes I'm used to, I'm thinking this could be the ticket to get the stuff I like, without all the stuff I don't like.

I guess I should expand on this - I realize the filler/fluid/juice isn't going to taste like tobacco. But the amount and quality of the vapor produced is important to me, as is ease of use. That's going to come down to a combination of the unit itself, the filler used, and how it has to be prepped to use. I know almost nothing about these, but I'm already leery of the Green Smoke ones. Any company that feels like it has to post all those bogus "independent review" sites masquerading as impartial feedback just makes me nervous.

Good call........

for ease of use try a kr8, similar to a 100 cig (maybe a little longer) decent batteries and cartomizers are simple.

my 2 cents-- I started out and am still using a Smoke Stik. I wanted to quit smoking, but I also loved smoking. I still take breaks with my SS, but I also vape it in my chair. I have never smoked in my house or my car and now I can vape, and I love that. I would give e-cigs a try & maybe one day you will want to quit; no harm in trying it.

The good thing about a battery with a cartomizer(as opposed to an atomizer and a cartridge) is that it makes vaping not complicated which might be a good start for you.

Many people on this site really like all the bells & whistles which is great, but I tend to like simple.

As far as juices, I have found that Halo has the closest fit to real cigarettes.

Good luck!!

I went with Volcanoecigs Inferno, I just started vaping on Mon when it arrived in the mail and haven't had a traditional (analog) cigarette since then. I of course did some research on this forum to see what people used and what they liked and the Inferno seems to be getting some good reviews. What it ultimately comes down to is personal preference I believe, I liked the way the Inferno looked, so I got it.

I've heard good things about the Joye Ego as well as the ones listed above. Whatever type you choose, you are making a great decision to step into the world of vaping and have come to the right place to find the information you need. If you haven't done so yet, I would suggest to search on youtube for some videos about using e cigarettes, I found it helpful to actually see what I was getting into.

Happy vaping

HI & welcome .........
To start off here ... the posting rules keeps the spamers out & it is a wonderful thing ...
this place is confusing enough with out having to wade thru spam .

Ok so I agree that it sounds like the Kr808d-1 might be the place to start for you ... from what you have said .

I think you should go watch http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...-videos-newbies-particular-broke-newbies.html they are fast and very informative & see if the kr808 looks like It might be the one for you .

then you just have to find a reliable vendor & order one
my suggestion would be https://strictlyejuice.com cuz they are in cali & have 808 starter kits for $29.95 free shiping ...order juice too to refill carts ,when empty.

but then again you could just start with a RIVA @ Electronic Cigarette - Starter Kits - Riva 901 for the same amount + $2.99 shipping .....& you still need juice .

Or you could ...... there in lies the problem ........ there are so many choices & we all have different opinions & tastes , IT IS VERY HARD TO KNOW WHAT TO SUGGEST & what to tell you that might or might NOT be right for you .

It kinda sucks ....but all the reading & time spent researching of these things are JUST PART of the Journey .....(& you'll be glad you did)

......good luck with it & always feel free to ASK when you have questions & one of US will always chime in w/our opinions !!!

Now GO WATCH mistress nomad .......... the video mentioned above .... :vapor:

I agree with the cartomizers. They are the least trouble to refill (at least Joye 510 cartos are, I don't know about the others) I smoke "lights" for many, many years. I liked 100s and 120s the best. That being said, I didn't like dripping (too harsh). Right now I'm vaping PureCig from FreedomSmokeUSA in a carto that I filled. It doesn't taste like "caramel" or whatever other flavors people say are in a tobacco flavor. More than anything else, it reminds me of the smoke of a light cigarette without the stink. I started out too low on nicotine. Feeling that I'd smoked "lights" for so long, at first, I went with 12mg. I quickly saw that wasn't enough. I moved up to 18mg and 24mg. My purecig is in 18mg. and I now feel that I have enough.

I love my 510,so easy to find parts for it and great prices.I also agree strickly e juice is a good site to order form i have had good luck with them.I smoked marblo reds for 28 years and find their marblo mix to be very good. I like to get the 36 mg and cut it 50% with vg. If you buy 36 mg in 30ml size cut it you have 60ml e juice for around 13 buck including buying the vg.

I agree with boomer. I love the 510 but the battery life was abysmal so I upgraded to a Gen2 (Large battery mod) I've only been vaping for about a month but the 510 mods with a larger battery are what I like right now :) I am leaning toward cartos because attys and cartridges are a PITA, and though I like to drip dripping and driving isn't cool. Looks like i'm already headed down the path to becoming a gen3 vaper lol!

My 2 cents for starting, as I smoked 2-3 packs/day for 40 years, always a marlboro (light in later years). I, too, had no desire to stop smoking - other than the obvious health reasons for THOSE AROUND ME, and the growing inconvenience of finding a place to smoke when not at home.

Go with 510 type items. There are so many pieces that fit each other so that, when you know what you're doing, you can easily mix and match without having to "go mod"...

Get a Sit-n-Go pass-thru (PT) from madvapes.com or an eGo pass-thru from heaven-gifts.com (these are the only suppliers of these I know of, others may be able to give you other vendors). You can smoke while sitting at your PC and be recharging. Then, when you leave the PC, you simply unplug the USB cable and take the PV with you. You also don't have to bother with chargers, since PTs are meant to charge via USB. I'd suggest buying one of each - the eGo for when you need long battery life, the 510 is lighter and easier to hold.

Buy several atomizers and cartridges, or several cartomizers - you'll want different for different flavours, AND you'll want back-ups. I do like cartomizers, but only the ones from madvapes.com because you just pop off the white plug, drip directly from the e-juice bottle into the filler until it's saturated, put back the plug or use a drip tip, and off you go. All the other cartomizers I've ever tried require all sorts of paraphenalia - syringes and such - and aren't easy to do on-the-fly. Cartomizers are obviously meant to be disposable - you can get 5 of them for the price of one comparable atomizer - so account for that when buying supplies. Cartomizers are useful if you follow the "510 compatability" line - can switch between your 510 and your eGo. And, I do not like the atomizer/cartridge on my eGo - gurgles because of the large open surface area. So, I bought a sleeve that covers my cartomizer and makes my eGo look "sleek" instead of a mod.

e-Juice: I like menthol, although I did not smoke menthol cigarettes. I use it when traveling with possibility of no easy refill - even at low levels, you still get a TH sensation. My absolute favourites, however, are Dakang's (may be called "China e-liquids") Flue-Cured Tobacco and their Ruyan #4 (AKA RY #4). The mix in these gives good throat hit (the feeling that burning paper and tobacco give), even at low nicotine levels - very satisfactory replacements for analogs. I do not like these flavours from any other manufacturer - they all taste like 555 to me (too much peanut flavour). And, I suggest going to perfumersapprentice.com and buying the little bottle of Black Sesame Seed - add just a FEW drops to a bottle for an even stronger TH sensation.

Well, my 2 cents turned in to 100s of cents, but I hope my opinions give you some help, and I genuinely hope that you are successful in making the switch!

I will also stand by the KR808 recommendation. The ease of use is excellent. Here are a few things that I would suggest when buying your starter kit: 1) buy juice. small bottles 5ml or smaller of different flavors. some vendors do juice samplers, others do not. if you don't like the juice you buy, don't give up, keep going until you find something that you do like. 2) buy blank cartos. 3) manual battery. I know the autos are more like "real smoking" but they are quick to dye if any juice leaks into them, and being new, it most likely will happen.

After reading your wants and needs personally I don't think a KR8 will satisfy what your asking for on flavor and Vapor. I think your gonna need an Ego/Riva/Tornado, all being about equal along with some LR-510's and a dripping tip. there are quite a few websites they can be purchased from Liberty flights dot com is a good one to buy the starter kit from. The I would head over to Ave Juice dot com and get yourself a couple of his tobacco flavored juices, he's got some good ones, you make those two moves and you will be in good shape for what your asking for in your post.

Oh ya, you may want to start cleaning house of the ashtray's, lighters, and other smoking stuff because once you get this gear your probably not going to need the harmful cig's anymore and will enjoy this much more, keep your Atty wet.!!

Thanks for the responses, everyone. MistressNomad - I've watched the first video. Very informative - thank you! I just bought 4 cartons of cigarettes, so I guess it'll be a few weeks till I try this, but I may buy a kit and start getting familiar with it ahead of actually switching.

So I guess I'll poke around the recommended sites and get myself a kit - or maybe a couple of kits. I'm pretty mechanically minded (aerospace engineer and work on cars as a hobby on the weekends) so little fiddly bits don't intimidate me. I don't mind jumping through a few hoops as long as the end product gives me what I'm after.

Ah - but that raises another question. Of the ones recommended so far, which one(s) will handle being smoked in the garage, held in a grease-covered hand, in between changing out the power steering pump and the flex disc on the driveshaft? Can any of these be dropped into an ultrasonic cleaner to get the grunge off?

If you need something that will handle some rough handling and abuse, you will probably need to go with a "Mod", such as the Roughstack from Madvapes.com. Its not much on looks but can take a lot of abuse and has a removable battery.

The models mentioned in previous posts can not be put in an ultra sonic cleaner, the battery would be destroyed immediately for sure.

I am not sure the RoughStack would survive either. If it were me, I wouldn't try it.

LOL, you posted in the correct place. I think half of the posts in the New Members section are similar questions.

I love my eGo (Riva is an off-brand eGo). It is the current "work horse" of the ecig world. The parts are interchangeable and relatively inexpensive, so if anything gets too grungy and can't be wiped off, you could replace and throw it away. Get a Riva kit from Liberty Flights and see if vaping works for you. I think that ultimately you will want a mechanical self-juicing mod where you don't have to refill, and the box is anodized aluminum and capable of being agressively cleaned. See REO.

I was a 1 1/2 PAD smoker, and the kr808 and cartomizers worked nicely for me- i wasn't planning to quit smoking at all. I've branched out since then, but still use the kr8s' , and Rivas and a Smokestik (4081). I prefer the manual batteries, and normally would suggest them. But you may also want an auto battery or two for when you don't want to push any buttons with grimy hands. The kr8s and SS are more like cigs in size and shape, while the riva/egos are a bit larger have longer battery life. If you're open to getting two types I'g suggest kr8 or Riva manuals and SS automatics- because the SS is a really nice auto battery.
