For some reason, my old lady kitty just loves vapor. She never liked smoke, though I think for a while, she may have been addicted to nic, etc, because she would jump in my lap every time she heard the lighter. I put a stop to that, because she already had to deal with second hand smoke. So she stopped doing that years ago, but now, when she sees me vaping, she wants to stick her face in the vapor. I'm keeping her from doing it, because I don't know how much nicotine is coming out of my mouth, but I was just wondering if any of your kitties do this. I did let her snoop around on my desk to see if she might chew on my things or anything, but she's not interested in my supplies, just had to give them a sniff since they were new in the house. She's mostly an outside cat, so I don't have to worry about her getting into them, since she's outside when I'm asleep or gone. Anyway, just wondering about the vapor.

Trill, your avatar is awesome.

My kitties like to sniff, too. What's funny is that their favs are generally things a cat would probably never want to eat- it just smells like a treat to them, so they want in on it. Ms T's blueberry pie or fried peanut butter and banana, for example, really gets them interested, and my ex-feral kitty loves the scent of HHV Gandalf- he normally prefers to hide for his catnaps, but he will curl up beside me on the sofa and purr himself to sleep when I vape Gandalf, which is pretty much what it makes me do, too.

I thought they'd love the roast beef I got from ECBlends, but after an initial wide-eyed search for the source of it ("where's the beef??"), they just glared at me and stalked out of the room. Cats do not appreciate being misled about roast beef. Or maybe they just assumed I ate it all without sharing.

You are ...adventurous about the flavors you try! But, yeah, my kitty likes to put her face in whatever, grandpa's mix, lemon, cranapple and now vanilla bean. I have to keep her out of here lol!

My boxer has become most affectionate since I ditched the smokes and took up vaping. Like your cat he is not interested in the supplies thankfully, though I keep them out of reach, but he loves the Attar of Rose vapour, and goes mad sniffing and kissing me when he comes onto the sofa. I feel rather uneasy about it and discourage him. He likes the Parma Violet too, but rose is his favourite.

Hopefully it is just because it smells sweet, and that we aren't turning our pets into nicotine addicts.

Just a heads up, Propylene Glycol is slightly toxic to cats. So, vaping around them and letting them bask in it is probably not a great idea.

It's also in dog food, soap, food coloring/flavoring, lots of liqeurs, and some other household stuff. So, it's not like it's a death sentence that your cat smelled it once, but you should probably look it up and make your own decisions.

Personally, I don't vape in my apartment because of my cat. I'd rather be safe than sorry, and I never smoked inside……so it's not like it's that big of a deal.

I agree with the last post. Although propaline glycol is something cats are drawn too, it can cause a condition called heinz body syndrome. It's an anemia for cats. Some vets will suggest to avoid directly blowing big old clouds of vapor directly into your cats' face. Definitely worth doing research on

I appreciate the heads up- I've never blown it directly at one of them, I kind of instinctively blow it away from them, probably because I avoided blowing smoke at them in the past- but they do like to hang out with me when I'm vaping, and I had no idea that it could hurt them. I just assumed that it dissipated too quickly for anyone else to inhale anything second hand, but it does stand to reason that if they can smell it, something must remain in the air to carry the scent.

My big fat basset hound baby (all 70 pounds of her) is currently recovering from surgery, cyst removed and had her spade at the same time, so she is allowed to do what I normally don't let her do, sleep on my bed. I usually relax in bed for a few hours watching a movie, on the forum, or both while vaping after a long day. Usually she likes the smell of the vapor, but I just got a blackberry flavor I'm trying, and it was making her sneeze so badly that I stopped vaping it and switched to the Hype. So now she is happily snoring away and keeping me awake! She is a very LOUD sleeper LOL. Anyone else expierienced the constant sneezing of a dog or cat from vaping?

PS. She is doing good, I'm just making sure she doesn't lick at the stitches, and she is thinking she is something very special. Going to take a while to unspoil her!

As for the worry about second hand nic, you don't exhale any due to recent studies on it so that's not something to worry about. PG is the chemical you need to keep the kitty away from. If you vape 100% VG, I still wouldn't allow her near it simply because a lot of flavorings contain PG. I've never been able to find the amount needed to cause issues in a cat but it's better to be safe than sorry.

I agree, my cats are interested in it but I never blow it towards them. If they continue to get in my face I walk away from them.

I think all basset hounds are loud sleepers. As far as trying to unspoil her, good luck. I don't think it can be undone. Our basset loves canned biscuits. When she smells them, she'll rub her chin into your knee until she gets one. :D

There was something I read that said–like most other studies in the vaping world–that it is toxic but no one knows how it being vapor affects things. Does it stick around long enough? Does smelling it have an effect? Does normal grooming increase exposure if it lands on his/her fur?

Make up your own mind, but I don't vape in my apartment because of it. I'd hate for my cat to get sick and have it be my fault.
