To make it as simple as possible, it comes down to battery life. You can find quality models in both kr808 and 501, but typically the kr808's have smaller batteries and need to be charged more often (ie every few hours). You can find quite a few big battery 510's, the most common being the eGo, which can last you all day depending on what you buy. Price-wise, they are similar. The 501 platform does have many more options as far as accessories go.

I can only say I started with and still have and use my 808's. I liked them enough that it hasn't been necessary to buy other hardware. I use the CE2's and think they have great vapor production and the new deluxe fluxomizers from GV are don't crack if you've seen reviews of the older ce2's I believe there may be more options for the 510 but I'm good with what I've got and haven't had to chase the dream.

Also theres adapters, so you can try 808 cartos on 510 batteries.

Somebody correct me if im wrong (which I might), but 808 have a smoother throat hit than 510s. 510s usually have a strong throat hit (using a good carto/atty).

So if you smoke slims, which I thing are kinda soft/light, you might want to buy an adapter and try out the 808s.

If you're talking about the standard Joye 510 batts, they are smaller and shorter lasting than the 808s, 180 mAh vs. 280 mAh. If it's down to these two, perhaps because you like the cig look, then 808 is better. I would advice manual/button batts, no juice leaking in danger.

Do you each smoke PAD? If you do, I think you need bigger batts than either the standard 808 or 510, which gives you 1-2 hours of vaping before you must charge them. The batt charging marathon gets old. I have both these kits but mostly use Rivas (eGo clones), bigger, cigar sized batts that last 6 hours each (you can get bigger). I can still use the smaller batts when I go out, for looks, but I'd bring my PCC.

Edit: small batts = don't last, longer lasting = bigger batt, tech limitation. Bigger batts come in both 808 or 510 connections as others offered.

Good advice here. My first real PV was a KR808 and I moved up to an eGo for the battery life and range of doodads that it would fit. IMO, if you go with the KR808, get the large manual batteries and keep one in the charger and you'll be fine. :)

Welcome to the ECF. :) If you want to jump right in and get a PV with good battery life and lots of options, go with a 501. A lot of people choose the Joye eGo, which is an awesome intermediate mod. I went with the E-Power myself. Both have lots of options, are very easy to use, and are used by many members on here who can give you loads of tips and tricks.

For a lot of people (myself included!), the kr808d-1 is a great choice to start off with because it's so similar to an analog. Just decide what is most important to you for starting out. :) Vape on!

Hi everyone ... my husband and I can't decide which e-cig is better the 501 or the KR808. We currently smoke 1 pack a day ... he smokes Peter jackson and I smoke Vogue slim 100's (Canadian brands). We are newbies and the sooner we can decide the sooner we can break the analog habit!!

Hi, I'm newer also, my friend got me into this (who REALLY does his reserch), I let him order all my products at first, he suggested the Joye 501 and I must say, I'm very happy with it, haven't touched the analogs (real stuff) since my first order of Backwoods Brew Menthol tobacco juice came!

Joye ego and couldn't be happier. Very versatile, inexpensive, batteries last a long time and there are tons of options- you can use cartos, dual coil cartos, tanks, LR atty. I also have a 510 mini that I use from time to time.

My mom started with KR808s but moved to an ego. She also uses her KR808 from time to time.

We both quit using the ego and LR cartomizers.

They are different.

100mah is about 1 hour of moderate vaping. The style of KR808D-1 SmokelessImage has claims the higher mah.

They both have short sizes 180 (Volt 220mah) and a longer size 280mah (320mah) (I recommend the latterT
They both have manual and auto batteries (I recommend manual)

Joye 510 is a 3-piece but most prefer to vape it as a 2-piece with cartomizers. There are few prefilled cartomizers (mainly some Chinese Dekang liquid ones) but the most kinds of blank cartomizers as well as tank attys and tanks (though as a slim ecig, it can use only the standard resistance cartomizers and atomizers). I recommend Joye brand only. Some clones are low quality and one is reverse polarity and will fry real 510 stuff. I think with a Boge cartomizer it has a warm moist vapory vape, easy to get a good size drag. I only use juices with 20% or less VG in cartos for good wicking and drag. I prefer the longer Joye 510 mega xl manual batteries but they are pretty long - 128mm long w/ a cartomizer. They seem to hold the voltage up better. The short 180mah mah ones main benefit is a great roomy PCC at NoSMokeVA.com ($29.85). The PCC for the mega xl is by Joye and is metal and not roomy.

KR808D-1 is a 2-piece and is a true 3.7v device. Because it is a 2-piece there are lots of prefilled cartomizers as well as a good selection of blank cartomizer types (again - slim ecigs use standard resistance only). For testing juices on manual batteries you can use a DSE901 atomizer (standard resistance) and a drip tip. The Vapor4Life and original manufacturer model have a somewhat sealed threaded end (seems to be sealed inside) and a good sized button. The Volt version has a rubberized finished and tje manuals have a totally sealed threaded end but a very tiny partially recessed button that is harder to press. I use Vapor4Life WOW cartos, mainly blanks. I think the KR808D-1 is a bit tighter to drag vs 510 w/ Boge carto. The KR808D-1 gives a warmer drier hit than 510+Boge and produces more TH with the same juice. I use the standard aka 78mm size and complete with a carto they are 120mm.

I like both. I vape both. I bet eventually you will own both because curiosity gets the better of people by the end of the first month of vaping. So just pick the one you want to try first.

Thank you Dormouse for the very thorough explanation!!!!!! I went ahead and bought a KR808 but you are right . . I'm sure I'll eventually buy the 510 for variety sake. Sure appreciate all the time you took explaining the difference as I'm sure others will as well who have the same question!!!!!

You're welcome. No big, you can always cross connect 808 and 510 parts using something like this 901/808D Battery to 510 Atomizer adapter.

Happy vaping! :)

Edit: I'm not taking credit for dormouse, btw. I'm responding to your post #14.

I think you'll get differing opinions depending on what each user started with. Both systems work well and can provide upgrade opportunities. It's mainly a matter of thread size.

get a good starter kit of either system and consider a usb passthrough along with it. The passthrough plugs into the wall, no worries about battery life. Use it when you're at home and save the batteries for when you're out and about.

I started with a KR808 and i must say thats what first got me off of cigarettes. I then moved up to a Joye eGo-T and i must say it is a lot better because i love buying juices and doing things that way. On my eGo i use Tanks, Cartomizers and Atomizers and love them all but i must say the eGo tank system doesnt really give me much satisfaction even with Low Resistance Tank atomizers.

Now i am moving up to a ProVari (waiting on it to be delivered) which is for advanced users.

Overall i would recommend starting with a KR808 or a 510. KR808 is good for getting prefilled cartridges so you don't have to fiddle with juice or anything like that. If you go with a 510 (like the eGo) it opens up a whole new world of possibilities but is also something you have to do research on.
