Alright, so I've only had my first rig a total of 5 days. Bought a Premium (brand) starter kit, one PR110 battery (rebranded KR808D-1), PCC and 7 cartos. Everything's going well until today when I shove a new carto in there and take a few puffs. I quickly observe the LED not working, and hear the sizzling sound continue, so I quickly unscrew it. I notice it's quite hot. My theories were low battery or failed auto-switch based on the symptoms, so I toss it on my PCC. It doesn't act like it's charging, although the charger tells me it's charging something. So I let it sit for a bit, load it back up and try again. Same thing, and this time I also notice a burnt taste. The carto starts sizzling as soon as it hits the battery. So I invent a quick/dirty USB PT solution which I shall name the "Cart-On - apply directly to the carto!" to tame my cravings until I can get back to the mall and ask them what the hey is up with their product.

Upon arrival, I let the kiosk dude hear my story, and I get the usual "yeah I've seen that before" - he takes my battery, throws his own carto on there and develops a massive cloud. His eyebrows go up, and he's in the middle of saying something like the LED's not working, then "YOWCH!" and drops the rig. It got really hot. So we concur it's a bad battery and he fetches me a new one, 90 day warranty doing its' thing. While doing his paperwork, I screw my own carto on the new batt to try it out and instantly hear the familiar sizzle as I finish an enviable plume. We're both perplexed - the carto is the culprit. At this point, I'm paying attention to the bits and pieces on the table and watch my second failed battery (only one drag off it) get his carto on it and do the same thing. Now he's getting it. He tries HIS carto on yet another brand new battery and bam, fail. Starting with my battery (maybe cartomizer), every component that touched it failed and cascaded the problem to any other component. Scary stuff. If I had pocketed it without noticing, I'm sure the thing would have exploded before I made it 10 paces from the kiosk.

I've heard good things about these apparently higher quality KR808s from this forum, but I just wanted to let others know about the potential for danger in these units. I really think the carto had an issue and shorted something out in the battery, leading to other shorts, so if anyone has any ideas on how this happened and how to identify potential defects out of the box I'd love to hear them. Saving up for the box mod from BradSmith...although it was handy going to the mall to replace my bad batt, I can't sustain that business model.

Thanks for listening.
