whats the difference between regulated and unregulated?
regards
mike

An unregulated battery will come off the charger with full voltage and decrease in power until it hits the point where it needs to be charged. A regulated battery will provide more consistent voltage each time you use it, until the last few hits before it needs to be charged. I'm sure there are technical terms for all of this, but hopefully you get the general idea.

I'm pretty new to this (1 month!) and am curious about the difference between regulated and unregulated from the standpoint of overall vaping experience. Is it better, or is the difference barely noticeable? I like the idea of how the regulated batteries work--only have G6 batteries right now, which are unregulated, but thinking of buying some Volts from SI. Thanks!

A regulated battery is going to be preferable for most, because varying voltage output from the battery changes the flavor, TH, vapor amount, etc with the vaping experience. It may be a big deal for some, and not so big for others.

When the battery is at full charge just off the charger, it's going to put out say 4.2V. As you use it through the day, it will drop as you use it. The second time you use it it may be at 3.9V. The 5th time you use it it may be at 3.6V. And it will stay at the nominal voltage for a bit then start dropping again. By now you are getting less vapor, TH, and flavor. You might elect to throw it back on the charger at this point, but that's really not a good idea. You need to wait until the battery signals that it needs a charge - most will flash the LED. The battery needs to be used to it's minimum voltage, then recharged just like many other lithium rechargeables.

With a regulated battery, it stays at one voltage the whole time it's being used. This creates the same experience each time without dropping voltages and loosing all of the good stuff that comes with vaping. The battery will need to be charged more frequently in this case.

A voltage regulator has a "dropout voltage" - a certain differential that must be maintained between its input and output voltages in order for the regulator to function properly - so for two otherwise identical batteries, the unregulated version will give you a hotter vape when it's fresh off the charger. This doesn't last long, however, and the voltage steadily declines. Most people would probably prefer the more consistent vape from a regulated battery.

Edit: The post above explains pretty well what it means for the end-user, I'm just elaborating a little from a technical standpoint.
