KR808D Cartos...

So Ive been curious about the cartomizers.. seems there are quite a few different opinions on them, So I had to see for myself.

I ordered a 510 to 808/901 adapter from Goodprophets, Some blank cartos from Midwestvapor, and a 5 pack of the cashcap cartos from PS.

Im typically a 2-3ml a day vaper. How long do these cartos last you guys on average? How many times can they be refilled before they are trashed?

Anything else I need to know? Oh yeah, Im going to be using them on my eGo.

Safe travels,

2-3 ml a day would prolly have you to fill 2 or 3 times daily. they have way more capacity than the 901 or 510 for me. about the vapor of the 910 and way more flavor than either of the other attys. When you get to were you cant really taste the flavor or vapor goes down it is time to refill. if you keep going it can kill the wick and you wont get the bad taste out, so it would be a dead cart in my book. To me the 808's are the best compromise of any atty that I have tried, had some 801's o n the way, so no comparison there yet

Blank cartos will be the only way that I'll use cartomizers.... after I vape up the stock of prefilled that I've bought. And I'll only use them for special occasions - car... travel and even then one can plan ahead prefilling 510 carts to handle it. If the atomizer in the cartos was anywhere near the 510, I'd reconsider but I simply don't get near the vapor with any cartos - prefilled or refilled with my favorite ejuices.

I can get 3 hours out of the blank cartos I got from heaven gifts. And I also got the blunt syringe. I chop a 901 cart to fit the cartos so refilling isn't too bad - a bit more of a hassle if you do the spin cycle which does help with adding more time - you pretty much have to replace the mouthpiece and inner silicone as well as the plug in the batt end before doing the spin. Again.... for me, only on special 'travel' occasions where I don't want to carry juice or extra carts for the 510.

If you stop vaping as soon as you notice a drop in flavor, then the cartos will last longer of course. Maybe 4-6 refills per blank?? ymmv

Just a note on the refills as this seems to be one of the more contested items about cartos.
I still have the original cartos I bought almost 2 months ago. (Although I have bought more) I have yet to have a single one die out on me. I have refilled some no less than a dozen times with tons of different flavors.
Now with that said, this is how I treat and maintain them:
I fill them until I see the liquid begin to pool just a tad at the top. Once I notice that loss of flavor, or that slightly burnt chemical taste I pop them open and refill. I never let them run dry. I just recently pulled all of my old cartos and dropped them into boiling water for 2-3 minutes. Pulled them out, blew out all excess water, and then let them dry overnight.
As far as how long they last before a refill? That just depends on how much you use them. I fill my cartos the night before and place them in my carrying case so I usually have 6-8 full cartos with me at any given time. I'll switch them off here and there when I just want a different flavor for a bit. I never have to refill while I'm out and about at work, or for pleasure. I absolutely love them and they do even better at higher voltage. I have a 5V pass thru and the flavors and vapor production shoot through the roof when I'm using it as opposed to the 3.7 batteries.
Anyhow that's just my .02.

One thing to keep in mind is that the 510 batts only put out about 3.1V so you will not get near the output that you would normally get on the kr8 batts. If you are not happy with the them I would suggest buying a couple of kr8 batts. Then if you get a kr8 batt to 510 adapter you can get better output from your 510 attys.

They will hold 1ml of liquid, but I top up before they dip below about 1/3-1/2 of capacity, to prevent burning. A burnt carto becomes pretty much unusable. (Well, this is a precaution I take because I vape at 5/6v, and HV can burn a cartomizer much more quickly.)

So if you use 2-3ml a day, you may want to keep 4-6 cartos around (or fewer, of course, if you can refill during the day -- but one of the beauties of cartomizers is that you can keep several with you and not worry about refills for the day!). Also good just in case one does burn.

Cartomizer lifespan is really variable. Some of them have lasted me for 20-25 top-ups, some for 5, a few just die after one or two (stop vaping properly). Occasionally I can revive a dead one with an overnight vodka soak. (Burnt ones get tossed, as I'd rather not vape scorched polyfill.)

I wrote up my (completely personal, subjective, and not necessarily universal ;)) views on refilling KR8 cartomizers here. But, there are a lot of different ways to fill and refill them that people have come up with, and it's kind of a matter of finding which technique is most convenient and effective for you.

Agreed w/ tarkus on the KR8 batteries.

Any discussion of cartomizers can not be complete without you visiting the V4L Subforum. They are the experts on everything cartomizers.

I use cartomizers with my SB at 6V. I have never and i repeat never burnt a carto. I also use on average 3/4 ML of liquid per day. As your not new to vaping you will notice a drop in flavor with the cartos when they are just about empty. Stop at that point and top off or refill.

They hold 1ML of liquid. I have personally refilled over 25 times in 1 carto and could easily do more but i have 250 of them sitting around...so whats the point of continuing when i have so many to choose from. Several members have gotten 50 and more refills. Taryn on the V4L subforum has cartos she has been using for over 6 months. Several other posters report the same thing.

Cartos are not all made the same....V4L has redesigned their cartos. They now have a 2 Ohm attie inside of them instead of the standard 3 ohm that everybody else sells. If your vaping at 3.7V then 2 Ohm is the way to go.

Taste is off the charts compared to driping with a 510. there is no comparison in my humble opinion.

Good luck and i hope you enjoy those cartos.

Fully agree on heading over to the V4L Subforum.

Quick note on the new cartos... right now, only the "Premium" cartos have the new atties although they are stating that this will eventually (hopefully we can read that as "soon") become their norm... and will hopefully offer them in blanks.

I threw them caps and little ring away and just use the condum with a little hole in it for the mouthpiece. It is alot less hassle and so easy to refill I could refill while driving. I don't but it's that easy. Plus I recommend a 5 volt passthrough if your using cartos on a 510. Cartos like voltage. Just my 2 cents worth.

Awesome!

Thanks for all your great info! I'll head over to the V4L subforum and check it out!

Seeing as I have spent well over $800 this month, I need to give my credit cards a rest for a few weeks. But I will definitely look into some of the other options you guys gave me once I get over my buyers remorse. :) No worries I bounce back quickly, that is until I see the interest payments on my cards! Argh! I need to go vape. :)

Safe Travels,
