As far as that goes. If the set of batteries is toast you should be able to tell if they're holding charge by charging them, testing to see if they're at 4.2v. If not toss em, if they are and then don't work or don't work for long...toss em.
Need a good set to test the mod. I don't see bad batteries adversely affecting the mod unless you maybe inverted them or something but there is a polarity lockout on the chip but im not sure if it works in they're pointed both ways. Let me know how it's going.
