True :)

As a matter of fact, one doesn't need to go that far to meet strange people. Your everyday grocery store is often far enough :) As you said, it would be boring if every people and place would be the same. What would be the point to travel anywhere then?

I've been to another hemisphere of the world just because I wanted to see how's life out there - not expecting it to be like it is in Finland - quite opposite in fact.

What iv'e found was that it's different - not opposite thou - but different. They have different solutions to the same old problems what we have. It really opened my eyes to see that there is multiple solutions to one equation. Travelling expands your mind, they say - and btw - they are right.

When I visited Belgium, it was a good trip for the most part. I knew the people that I stayed with and visited with from an online game that we all had been playing for a couple of years, we were all guild mates. But I have to say that the French Belgians were pretty rude to me when they knew I was American. I expected it tho, I think the French are rude to everyone LOL!

:) I dunno why that is, but it seems that French people (or french speaking people) are rude to everyone who's not speaking french to them. I guess they have some linguistic problems - or maybe they are just too lazy to learn any other language besides their own.

We do not have that problem in Finland, I can guarantee you that. There's less than six million people in our country and we definitely do not expect any foreigners to speak Finnish as they visit our country :) Well it's ok if they do, but come on - seriously:) It's our job to learn foreign languages and therefore our educational system makes sure that our kids are able to speak at least three foreign languages before the age of 15 - most important of them being of course English.

Haha, I must admit that I do not speak any other language, altho it's becoming quite helpful in the US to learn Spanish. At least when I was in Belgium I didn't have to struggle with the language, my host always went with me when I went out, French was his native language, and as a Police Officer, he always had his Glock in his waistband!

You don't need to speak any other language than English :) That's the point, you already belong to the majority of the English speaking group :) There's already almost 400 million English speaking people in US, so you don't need to learn our language - we need to learn yours :)

Well ok, if I had a 9mm Glock in my waistband, maybe I would bypass a few linguistic obstacles as well (with those rude french folks) :D That would give them a lesson :) Joke, that, of course :)

Well it's not so much of being the best of the best. It's more like being young and stupid, to be frank. There's no glory of being in special forces. That was just something I decided at the time. I went through that, and best of it all was the friends I made. Otherwise the physical and mental stress was just like hell. During that 8-month exercise I learned to rely on my friends. They were the nearest and dearest. Everything else was just bs...

Retrospectively, I think I was right. I'm a patriotic man, so I guess joining special forces was a right thing to do. I dunno... I love peace - I wish that people could get along merrily. I honestly hope from the bottom of my heart that none of us would ever face the horrors of war.

But if so - if that ever happens - I'm glad I chose to be a Special Force soldier...

Prepare for the worst, and pray for the best. At one point in my 20's I thought about going through the Police Academy. Seeing the state of crime in the US today, I'm not sure I could do the job without becoming jaded and bitter.

Oh, don't you worry :)

I think that life isn't that grim and dreary after all :) I think that, for example tabloids (or so called "news papers") define our reality in a way. They tell us that life is dangerous, that there's crime all around us - and all kind of other dangers as well.

Fear sells. Fear grabs people's attention. Fear makes sure that people buy those tabloids (or news in any form) - and people do - just to see what they should be afraid of. I'm not saying that there's no violence or crime at all. I'm just pointing out that there are sides who are taking advantage of the fact - by exaggerating and spreading the exaggerated fear.

We should rise above that, I think :)

Something army related - again :)

F/A-18 Hornet taking off from the dual carriage way in the middle of nowhere in Finland. And yes - we bought those F/A-18 Hornets from U.S.A. in the 90's. They are the backbone of our air force today. Nice planes, those :) Very precise, very maneuverable - awesome in defensing our country :)

It amazes me what those fighter jets and pilots can do. I would be losing my lunch before we even left the ground!

The song is beautiful, and not just Finnish feelings :)

Snow swimming LOL! That was funny! We just got another 15inches of snow last night, so after all of the shoveling and snow blowing, I feel like I went snow swimming today.

Thanks Bov :)

I liked the aftermath of those snow swimmers. They just got up from the icy-snowy-pool-thingy - and went on doing whatever they were doing before they took the snowy swim trip :D
