Just thinking out loud, but if they're starting to go so cheaply, they must be blowing them out to make room for v2 or whatever. We all know that something's in the pipeline.

Nope, it's a simple supply and demand. When they originally were released people could barely keep them in stock, and vendors had to order a large amount of units just as everytime a new PV is released. Vendors protect their interests and rightfully so and keep up with the economic environment. The orginal cost was just over $30 per unit for the vendors. Now that they've sold their original patch or two the demand has gone down, and they've covered the original investment. They are not cleaning house for the next version quite yet.
