My first rda got here less than a week ago but I'm already needing a second. "Need" is perhaps a strong word, but whatever. Shine-itis, you know.

I got a Twisted Messes and I really love it, but between the nearly $50 price-tag and the rest of materials needed to get set up, it was a pretty big purchase. I know $50 isn't unreasonable for a well-made authentic, but I'm just broke. For the most part, clones leave a bit of a bad taste in my mouth but I know some people love them. Even if they make me feel a little ick, a) I try not to judge what others want to do for themselves and b) no matter how ick I feel, there's a limit to what I'm able to spend.

So yeah, I'm going to get one or the other. I have been drooling over an actual Tugboat V2 but it's just too much money, especially right now. I like the fact that the Mutation X V4 is an authentic (I'm not looking at a clone for this purchase, anyway) but I've also heard that the Steamboat is pretty much spot-on to the Tugboat V2.

If anyone has or has had both, that would be amazing. But I'd also love to hear from anyone who has had or even used either. Convince me, please! Gun-to-my-head, I'd get a flavor chaser over a cloud chaser, but I really like both.

This is pretty much my last purchase for at least a couple of months, so while I'm not feeling as crazy about it as my first rda purchase, I don't want to throw money away. I know these two sort of fulfill different purposes, but from what I know I think I'd be happy with either. Just curious what people think.

FWIW, The Steamboat is 18.98 WITH shipping (16.99 without). I'm pretty sure I can get a Mutation X V4 for 26.99 without shipping; I have to find that site again so not totally certain how much shipping is.

ETA: TLDR: Would you get a Mutation X V4 or a supposedly very good Tugboat v2 clone?

I have an authentic tug v2 and a mute v 4.....frankly I never use the mutation....mine has pretty janky post screws so it's hard to get a good connection with the coil legs or they snap them off....easy to fix with new screws but it just hasn't impressed me enough when it is working to bother.....my tug is easily my favorite atty closely followed by an authentic vector and haze mini (both modded to bottom feed) I also have the el cabrone which is more or less what the twisted messes is based on (both are compvape)....the steamboat is a clone .... there are so many cool inexpensive authentic out there why settle for a clone..... many under $30... Trolls, hastur, vectors ( $29.99 at viper vapes) heck flawless ( the maker of the tugboat has/ had there new atty the "production" and V1 tugs for under $40 . I actually prefered my V3 mutation over the V4 and you should be able to find those for $20 ....look around I think you can get a little more bang for your buck

Thanks a lot for the input. I'm not totally opposed to skipping both of these and holding out for a little bit and getting one a bit better; as I mentioned I just heard the Steamboat was a particularly good clone and the price is right for now. That and I do have a very good RDA already, like you pointed out. It's really an impatience thing, you know how we get... I mean, it will literally be years before I can justify spending $75 on an RDA so an authentic Tugboat V2 is out of the question for now, but I still want one. Clones make me so nervous but at least the Steamboat has gotten pretty much rave reviews. I don't know. Clearly I'm pretty new to this. I know there are lots of decent authentics out there for decent prices... some just don't work for me. The Royal Hunter is definitely a consideration. I looked at that as opposed to the TM.

I think the real question for me is if I buy a Steamboat now for less than $20, could I possibly get another good (and probably authentic) RDA in the near future. I think the answer is yes, which might make it worth it. I'm just not sure.

I very nearly got a Troll when MFS was having a decent sale (they may still be) but I've read that you really have to build low for it to work well and it's not much for flavor, neither of which fit my style. I'll have time to check out the Vector and Haze later, but do either have this same problem?

Worst case with the steamboat your not out much really...and like I said earlier I love my authentic just a simple no frills but very good at what it does....also watch the flawless (the makers of the authetic) web site they have crazy good sales on holidays.....memorial day the tug V2 was $45.....I got mine for $60 on black Friday last year... $18 steamboat for now and have the $$$ set aside if a good sale comes up at labor day or something....
