Although that's the law, I have yet to encounter one person who knew that. I vaped during a 9-day stay in the hospital, the doctors and nurses thought it was great, and listened attentively as I demonstrated and explained what it was and how it helped me to quit smoking. Nobody mentioned it not being allowed that whole time. I also vape in restaurants and movie theaters - though I try to be stealth, sometimes someone notices, and when I explain that it's a "fake" e-cig, they just say, "oh, ok", and keep moving on. I think that most people would not enforce it unless they were very, very knowledgeable about the law. Smoke is immediately bothersome to people, in a very wide area around the smoker. If they're standing right in front of you and can't smell anything, most will probably immediately dismiss it as something harmless.

The wording you use also helps...I usually say "it's one of those fake cigarettes that help you to quit smoking", and that makes it seem very benign. If you start saying things like vaporizer or e-cig, people seem a bit more nervous.

The verbage of the law says something along the lines of, paraphrasing, "all devices used for inhaling nicotine may not be used where smoking is prohibited". In that regard it is legal to vape 0 nic indoors in public but not nicotine juice. Personally I don't vape in public indoors since it's illegal. I do vape inside at work, but discreetly when nobody can see me. A few other people at work vape, one full time others off and on with smaller devices... We all are discreet about it, but we all still go outside to vape openly and blow big plumes of vapor. If you want this to be fixed, along with everything else that's wrong with NJ, stop voting for liberals or liberal neocons like Christie.
