I was soldering back together a broken CE2 connection and realized I had used liquid flux and solder containing lead on the inside of the cartomizer where it heats up and soaks in my ejuice. I would be vaping that at high temperatures. I stopped and threw it away. It got me to thinking. Are the Joye atomizers that I love to use and many other vape parts soldered with lead? Could I be getting lead poison build-up every time I take a puff?

Not sure anyone has done any testing on this... but, the CE2's do come from the same country that brought us lead paint in children's toys. I have often thought about this myself. I wonder if those DIY lead tester kits could answer this question.

There are a couple of solderless custom built atomizer being sold that avoid solder all together. Especially those built on Raidy's Genisis designs.

No offense intended but I think you are being a bit of a weenie here. Did that analogue have any lead in it? What about in the air? What about the water from your soldered pipes? The liquids and food that pass through lead containing fillings of your teeth. Just getting really wacky - so why did God let there be lead?

Its a legitimate concern, but lead is actually pretty much everywhere. I think the likelihood of there being enough exposure to do definite harm is unlikely. There's no harm in asking vendors to tell the manufacturers that we as customers want them to use lead-free solder.

I do not disagree. Just thinking back. Do lead pencils have lead?

Weenie, I hope so but was just thinking out loud
Wacky, I think not
Analogs, probably not very much but I dipped before vaping and they don't solder them
Air, hardly any to be unhealthy
My water pipes are PVC
No tooth fillings in my mouth but do any contain lead for anyone in the US in our heavily regulated system?
God let there be arsenic and mercury too but didn't intend us to injest it for pleasure
I just wanted to bring up some group thought about the issue. You don't have to be defensive about vaping with me. I am a die-hard vaper and just want it to be as safe as possible for us all.

Behind you
Since that last thread of testing I check every so often and haven't found anything of concern. Most recently I was testing the Vapage Hybrid and the HH.357. Nothing in any nicquid I use (Vermillion River, Copper Creek, Alien Visions, Liberty Flights, Backwoods)... although lead is listed in ppb in certain "pure" nicotine extracts but not nearly enough to trigger even the sensitive tests given to me after that first exploration. And even then, versus analogs, the risk reduction is huge although likely present at some point in some form (and it's not clear it would transfer via vape anyway).

In the coming months I'll be releasing some data from a lab that got in touch with me as a result of that thread. They did all the heavy lifting and I only provided information on major vendors, components, history, nicquids, etc. And Flavourart is also doing testing of their flavorings BTW, which should be interesting too. Cheers, -Magnus

Thank you for doing all this! It benefits many! We need more people like you out there.
