Leaking clearomizer? Maybe?

Hi!

I'm new here and new to vaping, too!

I bought a starter kit of two 1100mah eGo batteries with two clearomizers (the set on discountvapers). I got a cheap kit because I plan to be a casual vaper and got it only for the flavors and to avoid snacking. :)

I bought four juices locally to try in it--all 0mg nicotine, all clear, all fruit-flavored. Three of the four are oddly kind of thick, but I have no experience.

I have a suspicion one of my clearomizers might be leaking, but I'm not sure. After pressing the button (to turn it on or vape), my fingers feel slightly sticky. I've never seen any liquid coming out of it or on it anywhere, though. And it's happened with a few of the flavors, too.

Does that sound like it's leaking? How can I tell and/or fix it?
When I bought my juice, the store person was super nice and gave me a little intro. She mentioned something about "flooding" and suggested I used a lower ohm coil (mine are 2.4, she suggested 1.8). Could that be what this is, or is that something different?

Thanks in advance for any help!

I've never used that specific one/clearomizer but I've used something similar and it did leak from the base sometimes. Where you screw the clearomizer onto the rest of the device, is there any liquid there? That's where it would be leaking from. If there is, that's your culprit.
Also, when you fire the clearomizer, do you ever experience gurgling? (like when you're drinking the last bits of liquid out of a cup... or blowing through the straw into liquid) I honestly, would suggest something other than clearomizers. They are so temperamental. Even cartomizers are a better option and they're just as cheap. Caterpiller vapes has really cheap ones that are good. They're called BOGES. IF you want more info, let me know.

It's just the generic DV one from discountvapers. Let me see if I can get a link in with spaces:

You may have a leak, but you may also be dealing with normal condensation. Did you read Eric's comments?

Eric's Review:
This is my products so while I can review it, you must consider a little bias here. I like it, bout the size of a standard CE4, I love the non markings, looks cool. However there is a small drawback to an entirely clear clearomizer, and that is condensation. Condensation happens when warm air meets cooler air and it deposits the water vapor from the vape into the center tube and drip tip, so, while vaping this has the look of "bubbles" in the center. Perfectly normal, except now you can see it.

I'm not familiar with those clearomizers, but I use Kanger clearomizers all the time and like them a lot. A few things to remember: 1) make sure the atomizer coil is screwed into the base tightly; 2) do not overtighten the clearomizer onto the battery--you may push the contact pin in and cause leaking and other problems; 3) make sure there is no eliquid in the center tube and/or mouthpiece--if you notice it, just wipe it dry with a Q-tip or a piece of tissue.

What is the ratio of PG to VG in your juices? Do you know? Sometimes juices containing a lot of VG are very thick--you can dilute them with a drop or two (per ml) of distilled water.

I agree with the sales person about the resistance of your coils; I usually recommend 1.8 to 2.0Ω atomizers for classic eGo-style batteries which are only 3.3v. You need a bit more wattage to get a satisfactory vape, but low wattage will not cause leaking. Just boring vape. :D

Yes, that's the kit I got! I tried posting the link the first time around, but I couldn't since I'm a newbie. :)

I think the condensation he was talking about was inside the clearomizer, to my understanding, and more of an aesthetic issue? I can definitely see water droplets higher than the liquid in there.

I will definitely try diluting the thicker juices, though! I didn't know that was an option! I bought them in the store and they didn't mention the ratio, sadly. (Although I could request custom from Alice in Vapeland with my online order. I was just anxious to try out the ecig, so I bought some locally.)

I'll have to try a different wattage next time! I probably shouldn't have ordered extra coils with the kit, but Amazon has me spoiled and I hate paying shipping, so I usually cram as much into one order as I can! ;)

There was a drop there, similar to the condensation I got last time when I cleaned the clearomizer. I cleaned it and will check again to see if it's condensation or juice! Never had any gurgling or any other noises.

I knew nothing about ecigs when I ordered and there was just too much information to filter through, so I went with what looked like a basic setup! ;)
I'd love some more info on cartomizers! I had no idea what to try!

I see one of your faves is from Alice in Vapeland--I just got an order from her! Did you find you needed to steep yours? (I just got a sampler, so I was afraid to waste the tiny bottles if the flavor wasn't right yet!)

You should be able to post links now.

Whenever you deal with small containers filled with liquid, you'll have to deal with some amount of wet stuff. Nature of the beast. Just keep a Kleenex box handy. Or a microcloth. There's a lot of wiping involved.

If you're not sure, leave you clearomizer (full) on a paper towel overnight--if it leaks, you'll know in the morning. Other than that, a bit of ejuice on your hands and on the battery center post is normal. Keep wiping. Get some Isopropyl alcohol (91%) and clean the threads on your battery and charger once a week or so.

You don't want them to be too thin, though. Very thin juices tend to leak--you want them to be at correct viscosity.

I like 6 watts or thereabouts myself. A 2.4Ω atomizer at 3.3v will only generate 4.5 watts of power--that's a bit low, IMO. When in doubt, use this handy dandy online calculator:

http://www.onlineconversion.com/ohms_law.htm

Good luck and happy vaping!

ETA: Just saw your post above. My humble opinion--stay with clearomizers. Cartomizers are a PITA. If you want a better clearomizer, look at Kanger BCC lineup--T3S, baby T3S, eVod, mini Protank. And choose 1.8 or 2.0Ω coils. :)

Thanks for this info, Katya! I just got 3 Kanger T3S clearomizers and had leakage issues.

I use the T3S and really like them. I rebuild them and once I got the right amount of wicking in them I rarely had any problems with leakage.

With a lot of clearomizers, especially Kanger bottom coils, the key is the right amount of wicking to prevent flooding and leaking.
Google "gurgling clearomizer" and you will find all kinds of you tube videos showing you how to get the wick right to prevent these issues.
