LED issues. I'm colorblind.

One of the issues that colorblind guys like me have is red/greed LEDs. I can't tell the difference. At all. I always charge my 1000mah battery overnight (at least 5 hours). When I get up in the morning, I have no idea what color the LED is, but I screw it all together and vape all day anyway.

question of the day: Does anyone make a charger that has two LEDs- one showing charging and a DIFFERENT one showing charged?

P.S. Colorblind does not mean black and white like old movies. It means color perception is not accurate, especially red/green and almost exclusively affecting men.

P.P.S I'm not sure I trust my voltmeter skills before my first coffee/vape of the morning, so that is not a good way of verifying full charge.

I had one for an M401 rig but haven't seen one for an eGo-type PV.

Is this a genuwyne Joyetech battery? If it isn't you could snag one of those $15 LED voltage displays madvapes sells - they have a 510 connector on both ends and you just screw it on the battery and punch the button. They won't work on regulated (Joyetech) batteries, though.

Five hours should be plenty of time to charge a 1000mAh battery, though - my 1100mAh KGO batteries charge in less than three.

I think it might be more of an American problem - what irritates me are people who tell me they're "color blind" who insist they have monochromatic vision, which is exceedingly rare. Red-green color blindness is the real deal and probably fairly common

The only advice I can offer is to trust your charger but carry a spare battery - batteries don't just quit very often, normally there's a decline in performance before they quit working. With big batteries and high capacity tanks I'm more guilty than most of not carrying spares, and one of these days that's liable to bite me in the backside

Got another idea. There are eGo batteries out there with an LCD display that'd show you charge level.

I have seen those knock-offs with the LED battery level indicators. I notice they prominently advertise for OEM engraving. I am leery of knock-offs, especially chinese knock-offs of chinese products. Anybody have good luck with them?

I have not seen any with two different lights. You may want to contact a manufacturer or more likely, a very large retailer in the US or similar that may have some pull. I have family that work in product design and these are just things that people don't think of when designing something. Usually, when brought to someones attention, the company is very willing to make the minor changes in a situation like this. The only issue is that these are not US designed, to my knowledge, so there may be issues there. I would try that though, as if you get any response, you are not only helping yourself, but other people can benefit by this.

Know anyone with electric/mod skills? Wouldn't be too hard to modify a normal eGo charger for 2 LEDs I don't think.

I used to have to ask my wife.

So I got a PV with a passthrough charge option where the light just goes out when it's done.

i have an idea for you guys. what if you got a bottle of your wifes nail polish to alter the color of the led. or im a huge rc enthusiast and they have transparent color tape you could cover the leds with to alter it to a color you can see. just a thought. hope it helps

I think most use the leds that are one bulb that change color. do you think it would work that way?
or would it just make two other colors we can't tell apart.

Well I guess you could try yellow tape.

Orange means charging .... blue means done? lol

I just noticed on my Riva charger that it blinks a bit while charging (RED), not at all when done (GREEN). I wonder if that would work for you.

See, color requires concentration that the color-correct population just doesn't understand. Changing the color is like... playing a different song to the tonedeaf.

I went to a local shop that only sells eGo stuff and regular 510 stuff. The chargers they had look absolutely identical to what I have. I also know that my Riva copies eGo in both design and features. I can't say that it works, but I am confident that it is a possibility.

One thing, it doesn't blink, it kind of "pulses". I don't know how to describe it, it just kind of slowly gets more intense, cycles back to a lower amount of light, repeats. It is pretty obvious though, I don't think I would miss it if my charger was only one color, or I was colorblind. Check out Liberty Flights, I believe it is there generic charger for large 510 style batteries.

I think that would work. I have a roomba (shop floor sweeper) that does the same thing. They say it changes color after it is done, but I know it is done charging when it stops "breathing".

My stuff is actual Joye eGo products. The charger does blink from time to time while charging, and it does stay constant once it has a full charge. However, I'm not sure that's a suitable solution, because the blinks aren't regular. It's not constantly blinking while charging, it's something that happens periodically.

My guess is that it's tied to how the charger knows when to stop charging. It probably charges for some set period of time, then the blinking thing happens because it does a check to see if the battery is charged. I suspect it can't tell if the battery is charged while it's charging, so it has a process to stop charging, check the battery, then start charging again if needed. That may not be it - I'm just guessing. And it blinks several times fast when it happens, which doesn't really fit with my theory.

If you sit and watch it for 5 or 10 minutes while it's charging, you'll see it blink. But it would require sitting and watching the thing, which is a pain.

Hmm. Even that might not work. The blink is going from red to green to red to green to red. I dunno if you would see that at all.

My suggestion would be to purchase one of these Black Assembled Volt Indicator. It'll tell you what voltage you've got, no need for a multimeter. Just put it between the battery and the atty.

They don't work on genuwyne (regulated) eGo batteries

I have watched my charger do its thing, and I can see the color-change blink. It's hard to explain the concentration required to figure out the colors. Similar to solving an algebra problem. It makes me sound stupid, but its just one of those things that my head just can't do well. My eyes send my brain bad signal, so it has a tough time interpreting. The brain has learned to disregard color info, and use other info for its decisions.
