Hello!

I have been vaping now for three weeks, and I have to say that I am absolutlely gasping on a ...! But, the topic of this thread (my first :)) is about the position of the LED.

I use mine (and so far, I have a 901 mini, a super and a Titan - although the Titan's charger broke within a day of arrival and is back with the supplier) in the car quite a lot. On sunny days it's quite difficult to see if the LED at the end of the e-cig is 'burning' or not. For me, this can be a bit problematic when it comes to the end of the battery or cart as I don't know when it's running out. Am I the only one to have this problem? My wife thinks I am being vain when I keep looking at myself in the rear view mirror!

I was thinking that perhaps an LED on the side of the e-cig (rather than the end) would be a good idea. I did try to post this in the modders forum, but wasn't allowed. Luckily, I found a warm welcome here in the Blighty section! I also watched a video on youtube showing how to modify your battery in 30 secs so that you could put the LED anywhere that was convenient. Great! So I tried it, and within 15 secs had broken the LED off the battery wiring! Problem solved, as now I have no LED on the battery at all!

Anyway, that's my first post. Am also hoping to ask later about comparisons/opinions between Screwdrivers and Janty's - but I will scour the forums first, to make sure I don't waste anyone's time.

Cheers!

John

In a house.
Hi John and Welcome to the Forum.
First thing... You say "I am absolutlely gasping on a ..."
Can you tell us how many fags a day you were smoking before you tried an e-cig ?
It may be your not getting the amount of nicotine from the e-cig your using. I started with a 901 and a Mini and it certainly was'nt enough for me led or no led. I knew when i was'nt getting a hit.
Once i started to use a Penstyle and 16-18mg strength carts i was satisfied, then again i was a heavy smoker for well over 40 years.
The thing is that not many people stop smoking analogues straight away.
A lot of people have an analogue when they really need one and then they find eventually that they are cutting down analogues gradually without really noticing.
So don't feel guilty if you have a .... Just try and ease yourself into it e-cigs and it will be easier for you.
Just keep coming here and learning more.
It is a big leap which just like anything else has it's learning curve.
Nice to see you and good luck.
You've made the first move. That's the biggest thing. :thumb:

Hello Dee,

Many thanks for your reply. I used to smoke around 15 - 20 Marlboro lights per day, and did so for around 15 - 20 years (funnily enough!). The reason I am 'gasping for a ...' is that I just can't seem to get the same hit from my various e-cigs.

When I first started vaping it seemed to be OK, but after a week or so I found it just wasn't doing it for me. Have tried different strengths of fluid, bought new batteries, cleaned the threads of my batteries with nail polish remover and dental floss (!) and have cleaned my atomisers in a similar way. I just don't seem to be getting the hit!! Think a bit of it might be psychological, as I am denying myself analogues - but my actual consumption on nicotine must be quite high.

Anyway, am now thinking that the answer to all my problems is a Screwdriver or a Prodigy (which I believe will have enough current to wipe out an entire galaxy of Daleks!) Have spent a fortune on equpiment so far, but if I put it on the never-never am sure it will all work out OK!!

I do not mean to moan. I really think this is a great idea that will help lots people quit smoking. But I am also aware that we are at the start of this technology and I want the best, most reliable and most effective equipment as soon as possible. Yesterday would be ideal!

I see you use the classic and I too think that may be the way to go for what I am after. Many thanks for your advice and welcome.

Once you have been vaping for a while, you will find the LED is an irrelevance - you tell if it is working by the vapour. With my 901(s) I use the LED to see what is going on if I DON'T get vapour, with the Screwdriver there is so little to go wrong I just change the battery when it stops, and if it still doesn't vape I change the atomiser...

Thanks for the advice. I bought 36mg and 18mg fluid when I first bought my Super. To be honest, when any of the e-cigs are working well I don't really notice a huge amount of difference between the 36mg and the 18mg fluid. This is great, because it means that I will be able to cut my nicotine levels right down without noticing too much. I hope.

Now I am thinking that the reason my e-cig experience has not been great so far is the batteries. I bought a new battery for my Super and it arrived last week. I charged it for 8 hours and used it at night. It was great! I think I only had to top up once or twice the whole night. Now, however, I am back to drip smoking (2 or 3 drops of 36mg) my Super with the same battery, and after 3 or 4 puffs it's like fresh air. I am having the same problem with my Mini, which has hardly been used. I drip lots of fluid into them, but don't get much of a lung hit. I charge the batteries for at least 4 hours even though the light on the charger goes Green after an hour or two.

I'm sure it didn't use to be like this, because when I first tried the Super I knew that I would be able to give up analogues if I had the 36mg. Now I'm not so sure, even though it's 3 1/2 weeks since I've had an analogue.

Prof Beard, is this why you went for the Screwdriver? Is the hit a lot better with these models? I know everyone here raves about their Mini (901) but I just don't get it - mine doesn't seem to give a good hit at the best of times, so I am wondering if the SD will make it better.

Also does anyone use a pass-thru on any of their e-cigs? I was wondering if people notice they get better results using that rather than batteries. I have seen some posts where people say the pass through is not great, but when they plug it into a mains adapter it's fine.

Might just take your advice Bracky - it's very true.

Any advice gratefully received!

Sorry John. I forgot to say that a usb passthrough might be the answer.

I must have been unlucky, I've had two 901 passthroughs and one was pretty well DOA and the other lasted a couple of weeks max :(

I do agree that OP mustn't beat himself up over the odd analogue, I smoked 22 in my first 6 days - would have been nearer 250 8-o

E-cigs rule :D

My SD delivers like a 901 which is at its VERY BEST - every time - good hit and vapour. I also have a 901 passthrough - on average much better than a normal 901 as well, but not as good as the SD

not to make this into another SD is de best e-cig thread , but i gotta agree.

I tend to stay way from your average e-cig these days. I use an evo sometimes just because of form factor but if your in this for the long haul then get a mod like an SD, JS, GG or prodigy. Although a larger initial cost , you'll get that back in the lower running costs and better performance.

Plus , if you prefer the performance of a particular atomizer ( 510 , 901, 401 etc) then adaptors are gonna available for a majority of those models soon i reckon.

Thanks for all the advice. I have spent hours and hours going through this forum so your comments really are appreciated. I now realise how big an issue batteries are for e-cigs. I think I will look at getting a pass through and hopefully a SD soon. The SD's seem to be sold out right now, which is great news for my credit card. Cheers.
