Very carefully LOL.
In all honesty you don't or shouldn't. You need to dis-assemble the unit from the connector end which is a glued press fit. It all likelihood you will ruin the battery. So personally I wouldn't and use it in stealth situations where you don't want to see the LED.

If you're equipped and trained to solder SMD (surface mount devices, T I N Y stuff), it's easy. There will be the rare individual who has the equipment and/or know-how, but they're rare.
I dabble in PC overclocking, there are some very skilled solderers there (and here, in the mods subforums) who can do it. I'm not bad at soldering, but no way am I able to reliably solder SMD's. I've ruined a good PC motherboard trying, after successfully soldering two others.

Surface mount leds and regular leds are two completely different things. A surface mount led is very small and rectangular in shape.
