I say putting it in a thick plastic bag, like the freezer thick, would work. I would use a cartomizer for those times. Make a hole in the bag so just the cartomizer sticks out. You could actually thread the cartomizer through the hole. The REO would be protected. Squonking through the bag should be easy. A carto condom on the drip tip should keep out any water too.

You may want to check out era marine bags.
Here's one for phones that may work ewa-marine: iWP for iPhone

You would have to cut a small hole for the drip tip but ewa marine would cut out almost all water. Another thing..I would be concerned dropping it in the water and not being able to recover it so I think a floatation device attached to it would be advisable.

You could get an old inner tube and make a pattern to cover the Reo with it. Use a good rubber glue like in a tube repair kit. Just have the atty sticking out. You should be able to squonk with this too. Perhaps a two piece design. The first piece slides over the bottom of the Reo and goes most of the way up to the top. THe second piece slide over the top of the Reo. It has holes for the atty and firing button and slides over the bottom piece almost to the squonk hole. Once again attach a floatation device.

Someone in another thread mentioned (sorry, old aged brain here, can't remember who. Tim, maybe?) that one of the unsung glories of the SL REOs, is that you can easily thread a piece of leather(paracord, plastic coated steel cable, whatever) through the slots for a lanyard. I'm thinking you could attach a plastic coated steel cable 4 or 5 feet long and secure it to the boat. That would at least prevent any "REO overboard!" type mishaps. Make it extra long so you don't have to unfasten it to use it. It would also discourage folks from slipping it in their pocket and walking off with it.

Other than that, and protecting the contacts, you might want an extra sealed container for spares (rm2, juice, batteries).

Like one of these, but for use on a REO.
