In the months I've been an ECF member I've seen the same question dozens of times.
Usually in the new members forum ......

Its it vapor or is it really smoke ??

Usually for the first response someone chimes in and says .....
If you heat up water you get steam ... right ??

True, but we are not heating water are we?
The farther we get away from that dekang crap juice the less water like it is.

My favorite Boba's Bounty doesn't look like water ... not even close.

Lets try an experiment :)
Turn on an electric stove or hot plate (heating coil much like an atomizer)
Go to your fridge and pull out some maple syrup (Mrs Butterswoth is my fave)
Squirt a couple of drops on your hot burner.....

Do see vapor (steam) or smoke ???

I'm not saying I know the answer .... or if I even care!
I was killing myself before and they are going to pry a REO out of my dead hand anyway cause I'm vaping for the rest of my life.

I am saying ..... If your the jackweed that posts "if you heat up water you get steem"

Knock it off because its tickin me off and doesn't prove jack doo doo !!!

Carry on and enjoy the rest of your day !!

Not that I know anything about the science behind this, but I will say this... If I sit in front a campfire, I smell like smoke. If I go to a bar, I smell like smoke. When I was smoking two packs a day, I smelt like smoke. I come home from vaping all day, and my wife doesn't smell anything other than BO.

There has to be something to be said for that and what might have been "lingering" in our lungs.

Ever been to a concert where there was a ton fog machines being used? Did you smell like smoke after?...oh...er...uh..wait I did smell like smoke but not cigarette.....ok never mind bad example...

Lol, yeah, that might be a bad example... Nothing like the smell of alcohol, weed, and hippie sweat ;)

From the Fire Engineering's Handbook for Firefighter 1 and 2
When a liquid absorbs heat, the volume of the space occupied by the liquid expands. When the liquid reaches it's boiling point, vapor is given off.

So any liquid can never give off smoke ???

You really don't think thats smoke when you put maple syrup on a stove burner ??

Thats burning lol

The maple syrup when put on the stove burner has sugar in it. The sugar immediately burns and when it burns smoke is created.

Lets use this arguement because i'm not as smart as I should be and dont know the technical terms.

It's vapor because we get condensation from our atomizers. I forget which devices gets the most condensation draw backs but if you watch that review on youtube about ovales new Tank product you will see him even mention the condensation.

You dont get condensation from smoke you get it from vapor.

if you put eliquid on your stove burner you would get a similar burning effect. There is a reason we only use nicochrome wires at certian safe ohm levels for certain voltages. We dont want burning we want vaporizing.

When I smoked a pipe I got condensation in the stem all the time .... not convinced that adds any valid proof to the argument.

I really think with some juice it could be a combination of vapor and a little smoke.
There must be some sugar in different flavorings .... sweetener at least.

Like I said, I am a happy camper. I feel better and I don't stink. I just think that maybe with how juice has changed from PG or PEG to some 100 VG it might not be as cut and dry with it being 100 % vapor anymore.

As far as the burning, I have bunt some juice with 1.5Ω attys being overpowered ... especially sweet juices (sugar ??) You can taste the difference. So in that case it may indeed be some smoke in the mix.

Has anyone noticed the temperature of the vapor when exhaled? I find it is cool on my hand. Try this: just blow on your hand first with your hand about two inches from your mouth, notice the temp. Then next time you exhale some vapor place your hand the same distance from your mouth. I find it is really cool. If I had a cig I would try this with smoke also, but, I don't do those anymore.
Now everyone knows that I am just a little weird! Like who really notices things like that!

edit for now i'll fix this when I do more research

Look i'm not going to find an answer thats going to fully satsify you however there is a huge difference between smoke and vapor and we are not inhaleing smoke unless you're using 6-7 volts on lower ohm atomizers in which the atomizer might get too hot and burn certain liquids.

I wish a smarter scientist would pop in and explain in this thread though lol

The liquid itself isnt giving off smoke its whats in the liquid that is. the sugar is giving off smoke because its burning. the stuff that cant give off smoke is evaporateing. Meh I give up lol

Oh, I am not for one minute saying there is any smoke ......

I am saying a lot of people that aren't really qualified jump in and say its vapor for sure !!

I am saying I think the chance of some particular juices and set-ups producing a small amount of smoke seems possible.

You don't need to convince me of anything .... thanks though.

Exactly what I was trying to point out. I think there is a small chance of the ingredients of certain juice doing just that. Its not like we are vaping water ... I have some yummy sticky sweet juices :)
