I'm trying to see what types of passthroughs are out there. Rather than the charge-as-you-vape passthru, im talking about the passthrough that is just operated by an a/c power outlet. afaik, there are no true passthroughs that are also a stand-alone battery. meaning the passthru works off of the cord, not the battery's internal power.

i am aware of the 510 cigalike passthru and kr8 passthrus, as well as the ego passthru and the micro ego passthru. the micro ego passthru is pictured/linked below, and the ego passthru is exactly the same, but the body is the size of a 650 ego (i cant find the link/ photo).

im wondering if there are any high end passthrus or maybe some other type of passthru that i havent mentioned.

I'm vaping on the micro eGo PT that you have picture there right now. I've got it plugged into a 2A wall wart and it's great - it gives me VV capability at my desk without having to drain my battery. It's switchable by pressing the button 3 times and cycles through the different settings - 3.2, 3.7, 4.2, and 4.7 volts.

They are very good, but my cord is starting to show some signs that the wire may fail some time soon. I might have to break it open to rewired, hope it is press-fitted and can be opened.

Good luck. lol.

Common "fix" is to put tape on the end where the wire meets the PT as a form of strain relief for the wire.

@OP: how about the DIY ones as an additional type? See modder's section.

LM2596 - $10 DIY VV Passthrough. Link in sig. The one in the link is powered by the cig lighter for in the truck use, but you could use just about anything that outputs between 9v-35v and at least 2 amps. Getting ready to build another one with an RCA plug to be able to use a variety of inputs; 12v 2A wall wart, 19.2v laptop charger, 12v cig lighter......

I got one like yours in the picture from VaporKings.com. I'm in love with it. I plug it in at work and home and in my car. What I really like is the consistant voltage you get out of it every hit. Plus the wear and tear I'm saving on my batteries. I'll stay tuned to see what else is out there. Thanks for the great thread.

i really do like the micro ego passthru. (and i like the sound and looks of that DIY one too! im just 100% unhandy. well, i should say that as im a quick lerner, im just a mod DIY noob and dont want to blow myself up lol)

the issue im having with my micro ego passthru is the amperage. we are limited to the amperage that our wall adapter is rated at. standard 1 amp adapters do little for me. the 2.1 amp one i have is good but i know that a 4amp one will be better.

Raider, Atty, et al do you know where to find a 4amp wall adapter? or something of the like?

also heres another question: seeign how my amperage is limited to 2.1 amps, what happens when i attempt to go over? does the voltage simply not increase when i attempt to increase it? thats what i assume, however the vape still seems to improve even though im already at max amperage prior to increasing voltage. weird!

I know you said real pass through but for my two cents I bought a kgo vv just for that, true its a batt first but I keep it plugged in, the cord if worn is easily replaceable and dont have to grab something else if off to the can or making dinner

This is what I had to get to truly power my passthru:

Home 110VAC to USB 5v 2000mAh wall adapter power port

5V 2000mAh output is what it needs.

nice move. a 2000mAh (2amp) adapter for $5 is a steal. i paid thrice that for mine and all i got was .1amp more (and this lousy t-shirt ;) ) :(
a 3000mah or even a 3500mah (3.5amp) adapter would allow me to use my low resistance stuff to its fullest potential. and even some of my standard resistance stuff can't fully come alive right now at 2.1amps. i cant go below 2.3ohms on my highest voltage setting (4.8v) and still get full potential. 10W is quite nice, but thats only if i have a 2.3 ohm coil. if ive got a 1.7ohm coil, going above the 3.6v setting does nothing because 2.1 amps has already been reached (and im only at 7.56W).

the kgo vv is a nice machine. the pesudo pass thru option is a nice feature. if i had one, id consider a Saft power supply, solar power supply, or something of the like. hell, im considering one anyway to charge devices or maybe even to use on the passthru. hmmm ...i smell a new thread
