Hi Robert,
in the name of all german reonauts I want to say sorry for all upcoming circumstances. It is increasingly difficult to import your devices, although there are no legal objections. The very fast growing reo-community in germany is confused and is afraid that you set your work for us. I want to let you know, that we are working on a solution to the problem. Please stand with us.

Yours Fippes

The trading of vaping stuff between member states of the european union is no problem. I am getting a lot of stuff from the UK. The first problem with the reo is, that Rob's device is not labeled with a ce-certification. The really bad thing is: There is no law requiring this certification for Rob's devices. It is just a trick to raise the confusion. The customs do not want to hand over the reos. And nobody wants trouble with the authorities.

Ugh...so even though its not required...it is. What a mess. So do you mean to tell me that REOs recently purchased by Germans are sitting in customs because they don't bear the CE mark? What is the recourse? If customs doesn't want to release them, then do they just hold them indefinitely or return to sender?

They provide you with the following choice: a) return to sender - or - b) destruction of the delivery - and - they conceal the third option which is appeal. (By the way, I ask you: Who is able to destroy this fantastic craftsmenship?) This is not a fair and legal approach. But most buyers do not know, that a protest could be successfully.

Hi lostknitter, here is a short description from the official website:

CE marking is a certification mark that must be legally affixed to products that must be in compliance with the essential requirements out of the European New Approach Directives. 'CE' stands for 'Conformité Européenne'. With the mark, the manufacturer, his authorized representative or the importer ( also for products imported from outside the European Union) indicate that the product meets the legal requirements described in the applicable directive (s). All products bearing the CE marking have free access to the entire market within the European Economic Area (EEA). Products that are not in compliance with the essential requirements out of the European Directives and further have no CE marking, can not be legally traded within the EEA.

Wow. I am reading the requirements and downloading the literature right now. Hard to wrap my brain around, but yes, I saw that customs can decide to keep it....but I think that is more on a wholesale supply level. Not an individual buying something from overseas. This is going to take a bit to go through. How awful.

Do not worry...your english is fine. :)

That's the point. You got it in seconds, you have my honest respect!

The conclusion could be simple. Just de-electrify the Reo with detaching the spring. But the customs officers will make a second joke: they declare the bottle and tubing to be illegal. But we can't laugh about that!

If the spring, the bottle and the tubing were all sent in separate packages or envelopes would that be a problem for customs?

oh my! so sorry to hear this! :( Is there some way to get around this? What if a friend sends you a package, does it go thru the same scrutiny?

When a reo was send as a gift from a friend, there should be no problem. But the friend must be convincingly. A handwritten and personal gift card could satisfy the customs officers.

A little story for your amusement: I have send two of my Reos to a friend in switzerland to produce the first youtube review of the Reo in german language (If you are interested, klick here). And Switzerland is not a member of the european community. It was great luck, that I got my Reos back! I will never do this again!
