I rebuilt my kfl over a month ago, using 28ga and reading 1.6 ohms. I was changing out the wick and burning it every weekend but I started to notice that it was a more flavorful vape at the end of the week instead of at the beginning. Hmmm... so I decided to experiment. I let it go 2 weeks. Also note that I average about 6 to 8 mls of liquid a week, and after the two weeks the coil looked like some horrible swamp monster but I cleaned it up good as new. I was thrown by the difference of how the rejuvenated coil vaped and I didn't like it. The best way to describe it would be that it was too "sharp". I'm back to week two and this coil is vaping pretty again, it even seems to produce more vapor (could be my imagination). Has anyone else tried letting their coil cake up?

Personally, my coil perform a lot better after a dry burn. When my coil has too much gunk on it, it has trouble getting red hot, thus making less vapor and vaporizing the liquid less, so less flavor.

When my coils gunk, I not only have trouble getting flavor and vapor, I also smell smoke from the gunked coils.

I also have a dripper and I have the opposite approach to the coils in it. I never let any gunk build up on that. Also, the ohms are much lower (0.4) and it gets plenty hot enough to resist gunking on its own. Eh, I guess this is just a weird quirk I have.

I think crxess nailed it- the sugars are caramelizing giving a rich caramel/sweet/roasted flavor- but I don't think it last long before your forced into a rebuild or cleaning/dry burn.

Yup that's what happened. The sweet spot was about day 6 thru 9 after that it got a little funky. I burned and rewicked. Much better. I believe it was mostly my imagination.
