ICR and IMR batteries run on different chemistry with different things inside.

They both can have problems.

The ICR chemistry is more prone to problems and the problems can be more severe. Because we stick these batteries in our faces and ask quite a bit from them it is not recommended to use ICR batteries.

If you are looking for safe batteries: IMR (Li-Mm) or IMR/Hybrid check Baditudes blog for a list:

i know that icr batteries are not safe enough compare to imrs but an efest red has an 10 amp rate but this does 20amp. is it really an icr or hybrid or something?
and i also found that lg icrs are rebranded efest purples and i am pretty sure they are imrs

LG 18650he2 2500mah (LGDBHE21865) is high drain hybrid IMR battery with a 20a CDR.
They are very good 20a cdr battery.

The LG 18650D1 3000mah (LGABD11865) is an ICR 2C / 6a cdr battery.
Problem is the battery shortage is getting to a point where now several places are re wrapping unknown cells including in a few cases the 3000mah ICR as LGhe2's.

If you're buying from a reputable vendor / dealer you shouldnt have any issues.
If you're buying off of alibaba, amazon, ebay or a PRC site all bets are off on what cell is actually under the label /wrapper.

There are no different versions of the LG HE2 2500 mAh battery.

Everything Topwater Elvis wrote above is correct. Hybrid batteries are kind of a mix of IMR and ICR chemistry and I believe that may be why some web sites call them ICR. Hybrids are IMO as safe as you can get, some of them actually safer than pure IMR batteries. I have a LG HE2 and have vaped it at just over 20A to see how it would handle it. I would never vape it that hard all the time, but it took it just fine.

You're going to be just fine with it :)
