Neither, buy quality li-mn cells..

Here Baditude.. theres a few here..Batteries - Batteries, Chargers, and PowerPax Carriers
There are more than just those, but these guys test just like AW and have a huge variety.. you can sort by cell size..on the lefthand side.

google searching is handy..but theres no replacement for about 13yrs experience..i know who make what because i have to.

They don't have to be li-mn..theres a big misunderstanding that li-mn cells are safe.. they are marketed as 'safe chemistry'..bvut by no means safe..
They are said to be safe chemistry due to li-mn cells being able to get a bit hotter than older cobalt based lithium cells before they go into thermal runaway.. but we're talking about temperatures so hot that you couldn't touch the cell with your bare hands..hot enough the wrap on them would be mostly gone..melted..toast

honestly what made older lithium cells so dangerous is that they rarely ever exceeded 5amps or even 7amps.. ICR's then weren't designed with perforations under the positive terminal like they are now..so when we started to use them for vaping and exceeded the discharge that they were rated for they would pop instead of vent properly.. Now, all cells be them icr or limn have the perforations to allow them to vent properly..As long as the PCB on the protected cell allowed the amount of current i required without going into protected mode, i would take a protected ICR over a Limn. It's safer.

Makes you wonder if everyone on egos or the newer box mods and such isn't a bad idea.
Unless the box mod is an iStick 50. No thank you. I don't want burn marks in my carpet or on my hand when the LiPo battery catches on fire. Who ever heard of a regulated mod which catches on fire? Answer: iStick 50.
 
one reason i stress buying from a quality UL-listed and approved manufacturer.. they have spent hundreds of thousands of dollars, and most likely millions of $ testing cells to point of failure..and designing the perforations to allow the cell to vent properly should it hard short or have a thermal runaway situation.. some small mom and pop backroom chinese operation couldn't afford to do that type of testing and R&D.. and Ultrafire/FandyFire/GTL's etc are just rewapped recycled cells..they've been disposed of and bought on the cheap or salvaged from laptop/cordless tool battery packs..if you want to know for sure, do like i did..buy a dozen of each from ebay on $1-2 auctions and take the wraps off and see what you find.. I'll dig up the pics if anyone is interested..i found rusted and partially leaking extremely old Sanyo/Panasonic/LG/Sony/Samsung cells..they tidied them up and spotwelded on tiny metal discs onto the negative terminal ends and spotwelded on buttontops on the positives then wrapped them up..3/4 of the 25 or so batteries i had to dispose of..at 375ma charging they became so hot it was dangerous to go any further with them..

Fake IMR batteries may well be anything other than of the IMR variety.

IMR and ICR cells vent with different degrees of violence, regardless of how well the cell casing is designed to dispose of the gasses. While you may knock down a card house with a venting IMR, you can roast an elk with a venting ICR. (May be a slight exaggeration)

Batteries don't leave factories right off the conveyor belt. They are hooked up to analyzing chargers that give them the initial charge, cycle them and check their vitals to see if they actually turned out as batteries or just a tube full of chemicals. What AW can add to a high-end manufacturers QA department - I wouldn't know. It may be how he started out, but the market has changed. No point sieving through tons of random batteries looking for gold when you can buy quality.

for anyone thats bored, there's some good videos on youtube of ppl hardshorting and venting 18350/500/650's and 26650's..there's one of an efest 26650 on there thats more violent than anything i'ver ever seen or done..

Due to the varying degrees of venting..thats why you want a quality UL listed cell..you want it to be designed the very best, so if it does vent due to a hardshort or stuck button...(even a tiny pinhole in the wrap can do it)...it vents as least violently as possible..
