Life Insurance and Ecigs

Well crap. My agent informed me today that all life insurance companies still view ecigs as "smoking".
I was looking to extend mine because I fully intend to live longer and I was so proud about having quit smoking (8 months now!) My bubble got burst.

Just some information I thought everyone might find useful. If it's in the wrong place, feel free to move it.

Of course they do, that way they can charge more. I avoid the whole problem by not doing life insurance. I don't want to be worth more dead than alive anyway!

There was a member awhile back that got a policy from American Income Life. And passed their nic test while vaping. Now, when I Googled them, they are a well known company, but put alot of pressure on their sales dept- so expect a high pressure sales pitch.

strange for enrollment at hubbys work they had someone come in to do all the ins stuff so I was there. we told him about the ecigs and he put no for smoking on the life ins. will keep that in mind though just in case next time around to just say no and leave it at that.

I had to fill out insurance stuff for work 2 weeks ago. I told the representative that I use an ecig. He put down that I don't smoke. Sorry to hear about your LI company. Have you considered looking into going through a different one?

A lot of them ask if you use tobacco products. That's a bit problematic for us, as nicotine is a tobacco product. I'm guessing it can be synthesized, but is it?

I get a $5 a paycheck incentive towards my health insurance if I do not smoke. This has been the first annual enrollment period that i've been able to check "I do not smoke!".

I even asked my HR department and they said it's A-OK!

Oh, I wasn't thinking about the smaller ( I think ) policies at the workplace. I thought she was asking about the whole/term life insurances policies where they come to your home and test you.

Most insurance apps ask if you use any form of nicotine...this includes patches, gum, etc...sucks anyway!

My year is up this month...I intend to vape 0 nic for a couple of weeks and then reapply for a non-tobacco rate on my life insurance policy. To do this you must be off tobacco for a year, and able to pass a nicotine saliva test. They cannot give vapers a non tobacco rate because they have no life expectancy stastics upon which to base rates. In the future, providing vaping does not cause health related issues, I would expect the rates to be cheaper than for smokers....when the actuaries have garnered enough information to set rates.

FYI - 72 hours of no nic and you can pass a saliva or blood test...I sell life insurance...have had plenty of customers do it and succeed!

72hrs? Really? I figured it was 2-3 weeks. The wife has been on me to stop long enough to get life insurance with all the bloodwork and tests. This gives me hope.
