Just got life insurance a couple of weeks ago myself. They did not care one whit that I had quit smoking. Only that I was still using nicotine, and they still considered me a slight risk because of it. I've known the agent that I went through for years, since I worked in the restoration business and catered to her customers often.

She even tried to call their policy office and clarify, and was told that it doesn't matter where the nicotine comes from, only that I was using it. Probably not what you wanted to hear, but that's where it stands, at least with one major insurance company.

This makes sense. The nicotine itself is still a strain on the heart. Given, the lack of smoke might be seen as a positive, but let's be honest....insurance companies are out to make as much money as possible. They're like preemptive loan sharks. I'm surprised they don't consider you a risk if you drink more than one cup of coffee a day.

And there's the rub, imho. I don't have an answer for you, but I am curious. It has been a LONG time since I talked to someone for life insurance, but what do they ask? Do they say "Do you smoke", or do they ask "Do you use nicotine?". I am so peed off by "the establishment" lately, I would start arguing with them about it.

If they are not asking how much caffeine I consume on a daily basis, then they shouldn't be concerned with whether or not I am using nicotine. UNLESS, of course, I was smoking.

Do they have special considerations for people that are using the patch or the gum????
