I'm looking to purchase my first e-cig and have been everywhere and looking at everything under the sun for just about everything and I can only think of 2 main questions I have. 1. How long does a typical atty last you in it's lifetime usage and also a typical battery. I know there are plenty of different attys and bats but what would be a guess as to average lifetime usage for these two parts? I would like to look at roughly how much I will be spending in a year on extra parts and accessories.
Thank you in advanced!
I am sorry to say there is not a set lifetime for an atty, Cyia. I know about 510 attys, and the general info says anything beyond three weeks is bonus, and they can last from a day to 6 months, with those two extremes being rare. Batts are around 300 recharge cycles, so it depends on your
vaping habits. I started
vaping in Sept and I have all my batts still.
Attys are another story. New users tend to abuse their attys in their obsession to make them work really well, or their obsession with making them work better than well. Dark juices, like tobaccos, will tend to clog them more, leading to more soaking/cleaning/poking/prodding, which tends to shorten their lives. Until you get the hang of carts and wicking, they tend to flood or dry out, and both tend to put stress on them, for different reasons. 510 attys are said to last shorter than the pen style attys, but are more powerful, which gives for many a better vape.
As for costs, it is really hard to predict this. If it becomes a real hobby, as it does for many, like any hobby the costs go up. I spent much more than smoking cost in the first few months, getting DIY supplies, extra batts and attys, juices, flavors, etc. Since mid January I've not spent a dime on PV materials, and I'm stocked for a while. But then I shopped around, took advantage of sales, tried not to
buy impulsively, and made all my own juices, which is much cheaper than buying flavored juices.
I would suggest starting out with a starter kit, an extra atty and batt, and perhaps a USB passthrough for computer use, and a variety of juices in terms of flavors and strengths, to see what you like. Then you can figure out what you would like/need for the future, but you'll be set for a while anyway. For some this is plenty enough for a long time. For others they enjoy it so much that they decide to really play. I am somewhere in the middle in terms of hardware, as I have a fair amount of 510 gear, but no real interest in trying other PV systems. I do have a nice little DIY lab though now to make juices.
You will likely spend more than you planned in the beginning, but if you spend wisely, the costs drop to almost zero relatively soon. I myself committed in the beginning to spending what I would anyway on smoking, once I learned the ropes on a 510 starter kit with some juices. It was money well spent, IMHO. Plus the health benefits are priceless.
