Hello, I am new to the forum and am on here for my mom. She bought the ecig and is not using it because she says the liquid is too strong. The brand of ecig is smok, and she got the light american liquid, which they told her was the lightest they had. She smokes Basic light 100's. Any help would be greatly appreciated, I really want her to quit. Thank you.

I am guessing that you are talking about a disposable she bought locally. My first ecig was also a disposable bought locally and the tobacco was also too strong. I got it in my head that if I bought a decent PV (personal vaporizer) and my own juice that it would remedy that. Well it has to a certain extent-some eliquid I have purchased has almost no taste it is so mild-but I have ordered plenty to find "that perfect vape". Still looking.
Anyhow-someone with more experience will reply with better advise. My advise would be to buy a PV on sale for not too much money and try some different juices. Like the 808. I can't remember who has sales right now but I would stick to the registered suppliers on this forum. There is a separate category for them. Then if she continues to vape then you could purchase a mod. Mostly I would advise not to spend too much money on the first PV so you can use the money on a mod later. Good luck to your Mom. There is a transitional period between analogs and vaping.
Now being new you probably want to know what a mod is. Its a better battery more volt combo but you will learn that pretty quickly if your Mom continues to vape.
Hope this helps.

I was wandering if it was making your mom cough or if the flavor its self was too strong. Being new to vaping myself, I have discovered that I had to hold the vapor in my mouth for a moment before slowly breathing in. This technique helps with the coughing fits. If the flavor is too strong, then she will have to find PG or VG to dilute the strength of the flavor. You might want to read this thread for choosing the nicotine strength.

Back when I ordered my first kit I got the light liquid. It was too strong, gave me a bit of a buzz... My first extra liquid order was at 10mg and perfect for me.

If she is coughing, it is inhaling technique...vaping feels different than smoking and you have to inhale it a bit differently...kinda like when you had a sore throat and wanted to smoke anyway....you managed...

OK I looked at Smok

If you want to keep using that model (possibly a 510 compatible threading based on the atomizer style) or it could be whatever mystery model Apollo uses. Dunno.

Buy their blank cartomizers (or the blank cartridges if it is configured as a 3-piece with separate atomizer and cart). They sell blanks (though their price is high)
http://www.smokcigs.com/accessories-1/

Buy the juice elsewhere that offers PG/VG mixes and lower nicotine. I recommend no more than 20% VG for a cartomizer (i.e. 80PG/20VG). FreedomSmokeUSA Tobaccos section - all of the ones that are not specialties are available in any PG/VG and in 6mg which is lower than Smok's 10mg Low level. Buy more than one flavor. I don't care for their Marlboro alike. Read the comments on the tobaccos. if you are using atomizer with separate cartridge you could also look through the specialty tobaccos (only available in 50PG/50VG so they are thicker). Do not buy from the samples section - they are all 24mg! (and they may include a free sample - it would be too strong for your mom and too strong for me too)

If you are using cartridges, just drip eliquid into the stuffing until it looks damp, not a puddle. And with either cartridges or cartomizers be especially careful not to put one back on the battery if you think it might leak - auto batteries are pretty easy to damage or kill if juice gets in the hole in the threaded end of the battery - they are totally dependent on a drag sensor there.

Here is their section on refilling cartomizers (in Getting Started) but for me it is blank
How It Works

Below is how I fill the cartomizers I use on manual 510 and manual KR808D-1. Filling the Smok cartos may be similar
---
How I fill a cartomizer (Vapor4Life for KR8 or Boge 510 for 510 which are all soft-cap w/ no inner seals and defined central air channel)

I use thin (20% or less VG) liquid or Vapor4Life WOW liquids, preferably clear liquids w/ no sediment

Filling a blank carto - I pop off the soft cap (unbent paperclip carefully in the mouth hole, not catching any wires or stuffing!). I hold some tissue against the threaded end hole. I tilt the carto and slowly drip 18 drops onto the inner wall of the carto so it slides down into the stuffing while I rotate the carto. Then I wait 15 seconds or so then I drip however many more drops the stuffing wants to soak up. Then I do clean-up. If it is leaking, I clean that up. Then I tilt the open end down into the tissue and puff hard a few times into the threaded end to clear any juice out of the central air channel (I want to see light through there). If it looks too wet above the stuffing, I gently touch a bit of tissue to the stuffing (otherwise that liquid will be gurgling or spitting in my mouth). Then since this was a fresh fill of a blank, I now let it settle. I lay the carto on different sides for 15-20 minutes. Then it should be ready to vape. If you use thicker juices than me, then you may need to let it settle longer.

As I am vaping - if the vapor gets a bit light or a bit dry or tastes bit off or the carto is getting unusually warm, I will take the carto off the battery, open it, add 6-8 drops or whatever it seems to want (I will either hold a bit of tissue against the threaded end hole just in case, or skimp on how many drops I add to make sure I avoid drips if I have no tissue). I check to make sure the threaded end is dry, give it a couple of puffs into the threaded end to make sure the air channel is clear, and continue to vape.

Note - it is easy for me to "open" my main cartos for adding juice because I replace the white end cap with a plastic or delrin drip tip (I get them at LiteCigUSA.net). So I can easily pull that out with my fingers when I add juice and it keeps my lips cool if the carto is hot.

Note2 - If you use auto batteries, at the step where I blow through the central air channel (assuming you have one), you could stick a soft bit of tissue in the open end, touching the stuffing, THEN tilt the open and down and puff into the thread end. That will catch all loose juice in the tissue. It will not be the most filled carto but it will be the least likely to leak.

Does she feel she is getting too much nicotine...is she feeling light headed, heart beating too fast, dizzy or nauseous? There are plenty of liquid vendors out there and she can get liquid with low or NO nicotine in it at all if that's her issue.

Does it taste too strong, or taste bad? Many people find they actually hate tobacco flavored liquid and prefer something like snickerdoodle or grape or waffle.

Is it too harsh on her throat or lungs? What the other posters have said about inhaling into her mouth before inhaling into her lungs is correct. She also should be drinking a lot of water as vaping can have a drying effect on the mouth and throat.

There could also be too much PG in the liquid for her. Switching to liquid with more VG or 100% VG could help that as well.

Finally, I've also found that different batteries and cartomizers change the intensity of both the flavor and the harshness of the vapor. So trying a different brand of e-cig could make a huge difference.

Maybe you could ask her to be more specific on what she means when she says it is too strong. We're happy to help, just need more info!

It could be the horrible juice that comes with kits. My sister had this issue and it wasn't necessarily that the juice was too strong just too harsh. Plus she needed to learn how to vape properly. I got her some 6 mg Vanilla Mint from KBV for her to 'practice with'. Once she was vaping OK without coughing I ordered her a lower nic tobacco juice with more VG.

Thank you so much for all of the replies. So much info, I will try to sort through it all and hopefully get her going on her new ecig. When she says it's too strong, it is making her cough and it burns her throat, so I thought maybe the nicotine level is too high, so I will try diluting it or ordering some with a lower nicotine level. Thank you all again for the helpful replies. I will continue reading here on the forum and hopefully get it figured out.

A lot of kits come with 100% PG chinese juice that's very harsh. That's really the way it is with most prefilled cartos.

You could always order juice from a different vendor in different ratios and mix them together if you have to. Diluting them yourself will lower the nicotine but will also dilute the flavor.

You could always order a couple small bottles of juice from Backwood Brew. Maybe a 6 & 12. His juice is pretty smooth.

Tell her to draw the vapor into her mouth,Then inhale. It takes a little practise for some people but she will learn.
