Scientists at MIT accidentally discover a new way to make lithium-ion batteries last longer and hold up to three times the energy.

"The discovery is expected to be an easy one to scale up to mass production, meaning the next-generation of rechargeable batteries could use aluminum anodes, bringing with it longer battery life per charge and batteries that have a much improved lifespan."

This advancement, graphene enhanced power densities... these and other fascinating new battery technologies are certainly making a case for things like low operating temperature, 60A continuous, 6000 mAh 18000 series batteries... some time in the not too distant future.

OK... that last bit might be a bit of a push, but a boy can dream.
