CASAA is unable to issue full Local Alerts--way too many of them and there simply isn't the time or manpower to gather contact information, etc., especially on a short timeframe. However, for a while, we're going to take the barebones information that crosses our desk and post it on the official CASAA Facebook page when possible and here on ECF, and then look to members to share in appropriate groups/forums.

And while I'm sure there will be several complaints of the impossibly late notice, these started hitting my desk late last night.

McLEOD, MINNESOTA.

Public hearing TONIGHT: Consider approval of the revised McLeod County tobacco and Smoke Free Ordinances. "An ordinance relating to the sale, possession, and use of tobacco, tobacco-related devices, electronic delivery devices, and nicotine or lobelia delivery products in the County and to reduce the illegal sale, possession, and use of such items to and by minors."

NORTHFIELD, MINNESOTA.

Second Reading TONIGHT.

City Attorney Hood and Chief Nelson reviewed the proposed changes and received additional suggestions regarding the “E-Cigarette” language from the Association for Nonsmokers in MN and the Public Health Law Center. Mr. Hood has added suggested language regarding, “Electronic Delivery Devices,” in the definitions of the ordinance to ensure the related products and devices are properly regulated. Language was also included regarding child-resistant liquid packaging rules as they apply to E-Cigarettes; this language relates to new state regulations that become effective January 1, 2015.

The changes clarify the difference between Tobacco Shops and other Tobacco Retailers and the rules that apply to either/both types of licensed Tobacco sellers. This new language will help create more consistent regulation of Tobacco Shops in Northfield, with rules approved by the Council. The other changes help clarify issues surrounding E- Cigarettes, smoking/sampling inside stores, mandatory tobacco retailer employee education, and administrative penalties for violations.

Heads up, HOPKINS, MINNESOTA. Your city is saying you can only have one vape shop!

Second Reading of Ordinance 2014-1081, Tobacco.

"The proposed ordinance establishes two separate licenses: Tobacco Sales Licenses and Vaping Establishment Licenses. The City will permit one Vaping Establishment License. A Tobacco Sales License will not allow 'sampling' of tobacco products, while the Code would allow 'sampling' and 'vaping' of E-cigarettes only in a licensed vaping establishment."

Anyone else get the feeling that this many at a local level on the same date is very well coordinated by the ANTZ?

Total coincidence, no doubt. I mean, they probably meant to start the assault right before the elections, but you know, they like got busy and stuff...

There's more than a little bit of incongruity between the ANTZ mantra of "we need more research in order to determine the potential health effects" and their action plan of "let's get these things banned, in as many places as we can, as quickly as possible."

Their own actions expose their own lies and duplicity. The last thing they actually want is to wait for more research to come in, because it's not going to say what they want it do, and they damn well know it.

Kinda like:

“But we have to pass the health care bill ordinance so that you can find out what's in it....”

I watched the Minneapolis meeting and would recommend it to anyone who vapes because you get to see who supports indoor vaping bans and why. Indoor ban supporters have no interest in whether vaping might be a public health benefit and many of them hope that science will eventually find a serious problem. Most bar and restaurant owners will support the ban so they don't lose business to bars that allow it. Office building landlords want their properties to be easier to manage without regard to public health. Doctors spoke at the hearing about the evils of smoking and in favor of the ban without being forthright about potential therapeutic benefits of vaping (doctors are doctors, doctors are NOT scientists). The argument was made that science should trump public perceptions on government respons to ebola. The same principle is not being applied to vaping even though the public health issue is much more important.

this seems to be new tactics being employed.
this has to be orchestrated.
from what i hear Minneapolis was an ANTZ
show piece.
there has been an apparent total lack of
coverage from the media.
its my opinion this is going to spread out
over the country. it appears the ANTZ are going
guerrilla warfare on us. if they can pull this off here,
they can pull it off any where.

mike
