My go to bar (the one I play darts for) recently had to put up a no vaping sign because my county banned it indoors like smoking. That really sucks. There were plenty of vapers there including the owner. I think it's sad because people are thinking if they gotta go outside they might as well smoke. Anyways that's sweet that your hang out is like that. That just adds another reason to go out!

We have a local sports bar that permits vaping. There is a group of us who meet for VCU games there and I have seen as many as six vapers in the bar at the same time. The ventilation system is such that you would never know anyone was vaping in the place, lots of air movement and ample fresh air being brought in, so the vapor is quickly dispersed.

Buffalo Wild Wings lost our business. I made sure that I stopped by and saw our usual server and let him know why.

I did the same thing and also told the managers. They said you can vape at the bar it`s just a corporate thing. I said yeah well you don`t need my money anymore see ya

Yeah, I don't blame the guys for enforcing their rules, after all, they are just doing what they have been told. But I just wanted them to know why they were losing out on 200 bucks worth of business 30 or so times a year. Besides, the new place always has Newcastle on draft, too.

Got a little italian restaurant/bar up the road that my wife and I like to go too after the kids are in bed. Great place to grab a draft and some sports with good food. They also have a humidor that I like to have a cigar or two with some friends. First time in I pulled out my bright neon green volt and happily puffed away until I decided it was time for a cigar. I had a buncha people ask about it. The waitress seemed very interested it.

A couple weeks later there were more people vaping.

My go to Saturday night cigar bar. Vaping included.

we have had no smoking in restaurants(not bar/restaurants) way before the regular smoking bans came about so
we are pretty use to not smoking or vaping in such places.
the bar i go to allows vaping but i don't vape when i'm in the dining room.
people can get awfully particular when they're dining.
i personally know smokers who don't allow smoking at the dinner table.
that goes for vaping too.
it sounds like one place allowed vaping at the bar.
this seems like a reasonable compromise considering the politics involved.
thats why its important to pay attention at the local level as this is where the
ANTZ are winning most of the battles.

mike

I've seen a few vapers here and there around Michigan in bars. Seems to be catching on quite a bit. That's a good and bad thing. Good because more people are quitting smoking = healthy! Bad because there's more people who might do something negatively to make vaping look bad. THings like blowing huge plumes next to the family of 6 sitting at the table next to them (for example).

I vape just about anywhere - even in California - when I go out. I can stealth it quite well when I need to...and unless I'm in a group of like minded vapers (or in a place expressly allowed to vape) I'm usually very low key anyway.

I agree with people taking their business elsewhere...but I don't think that's going to sway owners in any way. You have probably less than 5% of your business that smokes and even less that vape. You have 95% of the people who hate people smoking around then when they are out, and because they aren't educated about vaping...transfer that dislike to vapers. It's a business decision... Make the most paying people happy as you possibly can.

Yeah, they have another "corporate" policy that bans another legal, law-abiding practice on their property. We stopped going there awhile back due to banning lawfully carrying citizens. There's other great places for good food and a good time that WANT us and our money. Not surprised they'd put up the No Vaping sign, as well. Pretty soon their doors will be covered with all sorts of benign things "corporate won't allow." Won't be able to see through the door.

Back to OP: I WISH I knew other vapers local to me (other than hubby). I know they're out there; I see them at the vape shop. But out at about, not a one.

CCW/NRA member, myself :toast:. But I don't drink outside of the house, so that rule doesn't apply to me ;). Dang, I remember 20cent wing Tuesdays, WAY back in the day (we had a BW3 in Madison, WI YUMMY). Oh well, we have a local joint that rivals them, IMHO, but they're carryout only :(.

A fellow Michiganderanian! The Missus I & I just hit the AA Recycle Re-use shop yesterday :D

I agree with a lot of what you say, but also disagree a bit...

It doesn't take a lot of former customers telling a business owner their policy (corporate or local) is costing them sales, before it gets their attention. And as we all know, Money does talk, and the more of us that do like the others here and tell them... The sooner those policies might come under review & challenge.

20% of the population smokes cigarettes. And according to some surveys, 70% of them have some level of desire to quit. Those 20% have families & friends that have a vested interested in those smokers too.

Recent surveys I've seen show a significant majority of people either know nothing of e-cigs / vaping, or are neutral on the subject.

So in trying to find a point to this, I'll offer the idea that we do not necessarily vape in a public arena that is so over-whelmingly hostile.

Another way to say that I don't believe the ANTZ have won over the masses ... just yet.

So the way I read the situation, the no-nothing-yets, the neutrals, plus the 20++% smokers or smoker related present even greater educational opportunities for those of us, yourself included, that share the respectfully vape in public philosophy / strategy.

And in closing, all I can say is GO BLUE!
