Long Mode Odysseus Mod

I thought I'd toss this up, even though it's a design build for a very specific device (the Odysseus) because I thought I'd float the idea of flush mounting (instead of surface mounting) the SS 5A switch for a nice clean line...this has become "the" mod, and pretty much all I use now. The slack in the wires is to allow the Ody to be tipped in but the atty con which has been pressed into a small chunk of SS cartomizer tube will eventually be made wireless...I'm trying to come up with a way to make a powered spring loaded clip that is box mounted that the atty con/cart tube will just snap into (clear/unclear?)...wondering if this has been done and one of you guys can point me at something....

I like it, its beefy and tough, 6 screws to pack it up, not some wimpy 4. It makes that Ody look big. Is the Ody 22mm OD? Maybe a 510-RCA would be suitable?

It is 22mm o.d. (the cut out isn't to show off the Ody, it's so I can close the lid)...although the "long mode sight window and the cut out works out well...the problem with the RCA is the way the Ody has to go in is like a "slide the mouth piece through the hole then mash the connector end down into the box" hence the slack in the wires...I have these 90 degree RCA jacks but not the clearance (wish I did, they're these knurled solid chunks of metal, would totally suit this mod)...I was thinking about this idea...



Not really thinking of using the fuse (though not a bad idea if I could ) but the fuse holder...I could expoxy the atty con into a chunk of lexan and attach a couple spade connectors...worth a try...



I cleaned it up with some 0000 steel wool, strange, of all the more complicated mods I've made (and lighter, this weighs in at 218 g), this is my favourite...btw, the two center screws are the only ones with mags behind them the corner screws are for show

Ha, I thought the middle ones were for show. The fuse holder could be good, but you do mean horizontally not vertically right? Insert mouthpiece, orient the height and press into plug, much like pressing into the box.

Yep, horizontally...in fact if it works I may be using this method more in the future...with my penchant for recessed devices it opens up the design options a bit...plus the weight of the Ody and the torquing I have to do to get it to lay proper makes me fear for the lifespan of the threads...I like the idea of screwing on a connector and leaving it on...I'm starting to seriously look at a Nico style of connection, in fact, now with the Ody (and my up coming genisis) the atty con is the final part that is stopping me from going completely off the grid...can't wait

It depends what you mean. That looks like a RS box. The plastic is quite thick. You just need to trim/shave some from the box and the lid and a 26650 will fit. A sharp chisel used as a scraper works well.

This is the 3" RS box.

Almost looks dainty. It is heavy though. I like recessing my eBay horns when space permits also.


The same technique can be used with a 9V battery box (just slightly thicker than a 2AA box) like MV sells to get an 18500 in it.

I thought about slitting it for both the ody and the 26650 (the box finishes to 26mm thick so I'd have to slit (and bevel) front and back for the batt which may make it pretty cool looking and seeing as it's high impact poly (as opposed to ABS) it should still take a fair amount of abuse...I might just do it...it'd be a beast of a mod.

Sure, one of the best cells made and from a real manufacturer, with a site, employees and engineers.

The MNKE 4000mAh IMR26650. Very well regarded on the flashlight forums. And if you look around you can find them for about $10.

Various tests show them to be about 3700 - 4100mAh

Here's one that was at 4.17V, firing (under load) a 2.6Ω CE2.

That's a sag of about 1.5% . I don't care about days of vaping, I charge it every day. It's about getting higher volts and maintaining them as long as possible.

This cell is to be avoided, very poor showing in tests, but it is protected.

Couldn't have put it any better...just did a bit of googling, appears to be a bit of a stock issue on the MNKE's atm...at least I have a direction, I hate the battery mine field...

So, back to the "quick connect" issue with this mod, so as I'm rummaging around the junk drawer it came to me...



Shame to destroy 2 perfectly good Energizer Industrial 9V batts but it works awesome...I'll be using this connection method again

Yea that will work... kinda.

I considered that but I figured them to be way too crappy for any long term/fairly often use. Those are the kinda things that may get actual use only a few times a year. I actually hate them. Whether pulling them apart or putting them together.

I had used one of these a while back. Seemed like a good idea.

What an annoying ordeal it seemed to be.

Maybe they work better as they loosen up.

You need something better. Something more asdaqish.
