I was thinking about the eventual connection degradation, it is just a batt conn that some machine in China is banging out a million units an hour but at the end of the day, any mechanical/friction based connection will degrade over time with repeated use...I was thinking of spring loaded contacts with a latch, but then you have to stop and ask, "Am I over thinking/building this???"...

the Ody holds about 7ml of juice and a wick replace about once a week...I'll cross that bridge...but I hear you Willy...

Sorry, I got nothing. Not with the sideways and swinging motion you need. I agree with those snap connectors. They require force and often depend on 'flexing' of the plastic bridge usually on the wire end.

edit: actually what you have there is not unlike the insertion/removal of some batts in certain devices where the top is recessed and the bottom is pressed in. I know you don't like springs, but consider the flat steel variety. If you made an adapter that by default held the negative always in contact (could mate like round automotive fuse sockets) and had a slightly longer positive post that fit against the flat spring. Maybe?
