@HK-47 - Thanks for the recommendation man, but something about the length of the tubes that come with that kit sets me off - they look too thin and fragile.
Almost all of these type of units have some elements of fragility to them. I suspect mostly what you were looking at was the tank on top of the unit that holds the liquid.
Essentially there are 3 types of liquid storage units. 1) Cartomizers = metal tube with polyfill batting that holds the liquid and an atomizer 2) Clearomizers = wicking system that draws the juice to the atomizer (can be top or bottom coil = where it heats, each have advantages) and 3) Tanks. Tanks often are basically a cartomizer surrounded by a 'tank' that stores the juice. As you draw the juice is pulled via suction into the cartomizer and then vaporized. Out of the 3, cartomizers are the 'strongest' as in not very easy to damage. A clearomizer or a tank attached to ANY vaporizer will need to be treated with some measure of care and you'll certainly not want to handle the unit by the tank or clearo except when removing it for cleaning or filling.
@Baditude - You're awesome man, that's some really useful information. I'm interested in tanks more than I am a direct burning atmoizer, I think it was called? I'll be honest, for my starting kit, I'm looking for it to be as hassle-free as possible, so I have no excuses to buy a pack of bogies. Ideally, I'd like a decent size tank I can fill, screw in, smoke, and refill as many times as possible without worrying about possibly screwing it up too much. As for the battery, I'm not sure of the difference between the spinner and the twist, is there any?
There are all kinds of tanks available, some of them with metal rings and glass tanks or some are solid metals. Most people tend to use (at the start) plastic tanks because they're cheap and somewhat disposable. There is a learning curve to using tanks, so I strongly recommend you read Bad's blog about how to maintain and work them. The Twist and the Spinner are essentially the same unit with slightly different battery ratings, and small features but are functionally pretty much identical.
Also, if it helps, I'm looking for something I can rip (pull on) fairly hard - I'm a deep-inhale smoker, and want whatever will allow me heavier clouds and better throat-hits.
3 factors go into that mainly, and this is one reason why you'd probably actually want a variable voltage device, even a cheap one like the Twist or Spinner.

1) Vapor production and throat hit are primarily affected by the liquid itself that you are using. Propylene glycol heavy bases (PG) are known for being thinner liquid that has a stronger flavor and a heavier throat hit. Less vapor than VG (vegetable glycerine). VG is a thicker liquid that is known for being smoother and creating more vapor but with less throat hit. Much of this is taste/feel subjective and that just requires experimentation to figure out what you like.

2) Battery power. If you're a heavy hitter, you WANT a higher end battery. Yes that means it's going to be taller and thicker, but if you buy a tiny guy and pull on it hard, you'll be very disappointed with how long the battery will last. 100 mAh = 1 hour of vaping is a kind of guide for how long batteries might last but that's also at 'moderate vaping.' You will want and/or need multiple batteries.

3) Device voltage and other specs. The reason why a lot of people recommend the Twists and Spinners as a starter kit is because you can, to a certain point, customize your vaping experience by varying the voltage. You'll have to do your own homework on what voltages are safe to use with what resistance atomizers and things like that. The short version is, the twist/spinner has a dial on the bottom you can turn to raise or lower the voltage. Raising the voltage leads to a hotter vape, and with a long draw should create a nice big cloud of satisfyingly warm vapor. Lower voltage makes this less powerful. Since you specified that you are a heavy hitter and deep dragger, you actually probably want to be able to dial in your voltage settings for the best, most satisfying experience. The Twist/Spinner is a cost-effective way to start, and a lot of long-time vapers keep and still use them even when they've moved on to bigger models.

I gree with Bad...I'd stay away from the plastic tank/atomizer (T-tank) type system. It's a leaky major headache one. You say you like the tanks from V2? Those are of the/KR808 family (type threading) and they ought to work with Smokeless Image X2 Volts...which are in the size range you like. Plus Smokeless Image has some other similar to V2s tanks that might appeal. Personally I think you might do fine with cartomizers with a cone...nothing to suggest anything you want to avoid with that set up. Anyway..check it out (not affiliated...just a happy customer).

Also check out the cartomizers...they have XL ones as well as standard.

PM me if you would like more help with SI (they are associated with Altsmoke, too.)

Rawr Vapor: Ego Basics Kit - eGos & Accessories - Hardware

This is another (very cheap) option to get you started. This is a fixed voltage battery that you can plug into your computer while you're at it (called pass-through) and one clearomizer. For 20 bucks it comes with the absolute minimum you need to get by for a good little while while you decide on more advanced purchases and what you think you might like.

Note that it's a good idea to have spares of almost all your equipment. A few extra batteries, some replacement parts or multiple clearos/tanks for your different regular juices is HIGHLY recommended.

Trace, welcome and congrat's.....we are friends of a guy named Beel...got that from my kid. He is waiting on his Ego C as we speak and his user name is beel weelson. Didn't get it right away...then hummmppphhh....ahhhh. He tried my Ego battery and setup a few days ago.....fell in love and didn't smoke a ciggy all day he was at the house. Saw him last night at work and told me it was killing him waiting for his in the mail and smoking the analogs. Remember the other leap of faith you made?? Leap again and trust in something (Bad) whatever it may be (Bad), I am not telling (Bad) you what to do, I am just (Bad) making suggestions.

Oh wow, close shave then. Is there a more current starter kit, or am I better off buying the parts individually?
Better off buying the parts separately. You will not find an ideal kit from a vendor. A starter kit at a sale or discount price generally is not that if it isn't specifically what you want or need. Not a fan of "kits". You should be able to get what you pay for, which is generally as a rule not found in typical starter kits.

@Ocelot - that looks like a nice piece, but something about it screams glassware to me... for anyone else this isn't an issue, but as a recovering alcoholic/addict I try to avoid things that remind me of using, so while some of the e-cig models look sleek and techy and don't set off my alarm bells, something about the pictured one seems both the right size and appearance to make me uncomfortable. Sorry for being so picky!

No, no! It's sitting in a vase so it wouldn't fall off the porch while I took pictures. I was actually shooting pictures of the drip tip, which is an expensive one-of-a-kind made of glass that I got to celebrate my 100th tobacco-free day. I posted the picture for you just to show the length of the battery.

This is my pretty tip! It's not for sale anywhere, It's mine, mine, mine!

I just posted this somewhere else too, but I found the eliquid vendors that I now like the best by reading a thread on here called Top 5 Vendors. I looked at all the websites. I did spend a whole evening doing it, but I don't do much in the evenings when my kid goes to bed anyway.
You have to try lots of samples to find what kinds you like. I love coffee more than air but I don't like any coffee eliquids I've tried.
It also depends on if you're looking for a bargain price or willing to spend more on the fancier stuff.
Hope that helps.

HERE is the kit i suggest to people looking for a solid starter kit, it comes with two twist batterys and two vivi novas and 6 spare heads for the vivi's and a charger for a pretty good price, only thing left to get would be some good juice which they also offer for about $5 a bottle and have some great flavors.

That is a nice kit for somene new to vaping. I keep the same stuff around for backups or when I want to carry around something smaller and lighter than a mod.

Rapture, I am drooling over that Avatar of yours!! What that?! I'm obsessed with the color red BTW lol.

thanks :) Oh you should see it in real life it looks so nice. Its a red BOLT, fat red j-tank, and a red cherry vape pawn tip. With red strawberry bubble gum juice. I have to say it is so dreamy to vape a strawberry bubble gum juice out of a all red setup. A MUST TRY!!!! I should post a better picture too

Man, I hear you on this. Im was a 2 pack a day smoker.. when I found out there was something way better, and better for me I laughed. So, I started on BLU E cigs, then through conversation with friends, I was shown the "Light" ( lol ) I was shown the Varivolt! This is a product from "Electronic Cigarette | E Cig Liquid | Totally Wicked E Cigs" check it out if you want that true vaping experience.
