Look, I really don't know how to ask this question.

Many PCs would not be powerful enough to drive it. The USB spec says that USB equipment only has to provide half an amp. So that would be 2.5W

USB chargers can, and usually do, provide more. Many PCs don't bother to limit it either.

Handy Hint: if you do draw too much power from a PC, you will probably trip a self-resetting fuse. Those things work by a crystalisation mechanic that takes hours to reset. Don't panic; try again the next day.

I've seen those they seem really cool. No more worrying about charging! The only problem is you would have to be around a wall plug at all times.
Nothing a long usb extension male/female cable can't fix. 2 metres - around 3 bucks on ebay. My pass-through came with a 1.5 metre cable, so i never bothered.

I've gone through 3 of them since March. I have them plugged up to a 6' USB cord extension cord that is plugged to a wall adapter. While thy work great, they also present an issue of what to do with it when it's not in your hand. I adapted a stainless steel toothbrush holder to hang mine from when it's not needed.

The reason I've gone through 3 of them is the cord...connections break when you have constant movement of wire, and that's what they do. One of these days I'll go through them and try to sort out the loose connections, but for now they occupy a cigar box in the closet.

For some reason, I'm picturing a bank of them at a e-juice bar for customers to use to try new flavors. If they can start making them more robust, I can see shops getting rid of the testing eGo sticks and just have a strip bank of USB plugs and pass throughs. It's just a thought...

In my other life I am a moderator over on the Raspberry Pi forum. The Raspberry Pi uses micro USB power supplies, and it is quite particular about them. There are a load of very bad chargers out there. Some of them are dangerously unsafe. I've had one I bought from an independent phone shop fail with smoke and a bad smell. Some of them have have little or no regulation, others just cannot get anywhere close to their rated current.

If you want to be scared:

Any charger you get with a device will be good quality. If you don't have a smart phone or a tablet, then this one is excellent: Buy Plug In Power Supply Micro USB Power Supply Adapter,5V,2A RS HNP10I-microUSB online from RS for next day delivery.
