Aren't the T-egp joy products made with protected batteries?

eGos use protected batteries, but I can only speak to the Joyetech products.

NiHm is not on the way out as you stated. The reason lithium numbers are increasing is because of the greatly increased use of cell phones, iPods etc.

Thanks Stubby, that was a quick opinion from reading a few articles. What do you think about the OP's original question: a small mini or eGo style battery that is NiMh? It doesn't look feasible to me. Mods, yes...but the OP didn't sound like they wanted to "mess" with a hobby.....just wanted something that will work in NiMh.

I can't see the reason to go with the ego form factor. NiMh AAA batteries are available everywhere along with the chargers. Creating a specially designed battery and charger for an ego style, it could probable be done..... but why would anyone.

A box would be the way to go. I would guess a great majority of folks would rather just buy one rather then try and make it themselves.

For NiMh batteries to work you need at least 4 cells in series, with that configuration they are an excellent setup for vaping IF you don't mind a bit larger form factor. 4-subC NiMh batteries are available and will fit in place of any 18650 application that is not using boost. I personally prefer the 4-AA in a box to supply a day's worth of vaping (3-5mL) at 2.5-3.0 ohms.

There is much more promise in NiZn 1.6V cells for a smaller form vaping power battery. I've been using a set with a box mod, and 2.0 ohm DCC tanks. Measured just off the charger they are about 7.5V and drop to 6.7V with the DCC, but the 4.0 ohm coils handle the power quite well.

Regarding safety, I have had an atty connector short out completely on my NiMh AA setup, the batteries did not vent, did not flame, did not even get warm, they just stopped working, no charge left. Repaired the connector and recharged the batteries and they still work just fine. I have Li-ion batteries and mods that use Li-ion but have switched mostly to using the NiMh or NiZn for ease of charging, ease of purchase, low cost and long life.

First off Stosh...... I didn't give you permission to use my picture, even though you did at least change the wording.....What are the chances.....

Seriously though, I'm in the process of getting a NiHm box being built for me. I wouldn't want to think about what it would look like if I built it.

Is there any disadvantage to using AAA instead of AA outside of the obvious longer life between charges because of higher capacity. What I'm trying figure out is if AA would drive atomizers, etc, better because they put out more current (does AA put out more current then AAA? I don't know).

LOL - for as long as we've both been on ECF, it's surprising this is the first thread we bumped together!!

Go with AA, better hit last longer, I get near a full day out of them as a heavy vaper.
And right now the NiZn are only available in AA if you want to go high voltage.

AAA (I built a few of them also) work well but you're on the bottom half of the charge too fast.

These are some specs for the eneloop AA ... (low self discharge) NiHm.

SANYO eneloop | Ready to use Rechargeable Battery - The only battery you will ever need

The graph shows the discharge rate up to 4 amps. The line does dip a bit at that rate but at 2 or 2 1/2 amps they are pretty solid.

It also holds voltage very well with no steep drop offs until the end of the cycle. This fits very well with the needs of standard resistance devices for an electronic cigarette.

I don't know about other brands. I know some others have higher mA but don't know how well they hold their voltage. The AAA would not put out the amperage of the AA so matching it up with a device may be more difficult.

I'm not a battery expert by any means, but from what I can see they look like they would work very well.

I think what you are looking for has not really been answered. I dont know of any ecig that has a built in rechargeable nimh battery. But most mods that take a 18650 3.7 li-ion battery can be subsituded with a 4.8v nimh battery. These batteries are rare but are sold at some ecig places for a 5v alternative. I have 2 of them and use them in my mod from parkes vapor. They do not sell the batteries but they can be bought at several locations, madvapes being one of them. They are green and the same size as the 18650.
