Yeah, Forrest Mims' "Engineer's Mini-notebook" series were the best!
There's also a "Getting Started in Electronics" book by that same author.
All are available at Radio Shack. Or were? I haven't been there in quite a while.
Last time I was there, as soon as I stepped inside I was hassled constantly by one of the salespersons there to
buy a damn cellphone from them. At the time, it seems I was the ONLY person alive that didn't own a cellphone, lol! (Keep in mind, this was some years back, my first cellphone was a huge Nokia that featured... pause for effect... SNAKE!!!)
He asked me what provider I was with and when I told him I didn't own a cellphone his facial expression was priceless; I WISH I'd taken a picture! All he needed was BSOD eyeballs! LMAO
Anyways, besides the hassle, I had gone to buy some common transistors and all they had were RCA cables and
batteries and crap like that! Where the hell did all the electronics parts go? They told me they could mail order me anything I needed (for a fee) and it was then I knew RS was dead to me.
Sorry about the rant; I'll shut up now!
