Looking for a Mech MOD.

So I recently picked up a kayfun 3.1 es and was thinking of making bigger flavorful clouds and everyone's pointing me to sub ohm and mechs so if someone wanted a durable, reliable, and quality mechanical what would you fine folks recommend? I am 100% new to Mechanicals so if you could link to the reliable site for the mod you recommend, that would be best to avoid bad clones or knock offs.

If I have a color choice a shiny metal black would be best if not performance > looks

kayfun's arent really made for that low of sub-ohming. I've found that the best flavor and clouds that come from a Kayfun come in the 1.0-1.4 Ohm range on a regulated mod. If you must have a mech and have done all of the research that accompanies mechs and battery safety, check out 101vape.com, VapeRoyalty.com (my fav), and vapingwalrus.com. They all sell quality mods and there are plenty of reviews for each item to be sure.

Take a long deep breath and get ready for a learning curve. Do ALL the research so nobody gets hurt.

The Kayfun is not a cloud chasing machine, so you will be starting from scratch.

A mech, RDA, multi-meter, batteries, charger, wire, and tools = $$$, even if you buy cheap.

I am no suggesting you don't go this route. It is a lot of fun in the end. Just go in blindly.

OP, you're looking at quite the investment here: A nice mech mod clone ($25-$50), Ohm reader ($20.00), Quality Batteries (AW, MNKE, $20.00), wick and wire ($10.00), a nice charger ($20-30), an RDA ($25), and hours upon hours of research.

Or you could just stick with what the Kayfun is meant for and be much happier.

IMO the Kayfun is one of those toppers that really benefits from being on a regulated PV. I have mine on a Nemesis with a Kick-2.
I run it with a 1.25 ohm coil set at 9 watts. Now if you do the math, that's only 3.5v. Thus the need to be regulated, otherwise it would be at 14 watts on a fresh battery. (or a regulated PV that does not have "step down", like a DNA)
The Kayfun puts out a moderate amount of vapor. Enough to satisfy most, but it could hardly be called cloud chasing.

I use mechanicals with RDAs most of the time, but with 2 ohm coils they don't qualify as cloud chasers either. My point is that I set my PVs up to satisfy me,and to hell with cloud chasing. Other people like big clouds, but it's not my bag. So set your PV up to satisfy YOU, and to hell with what others think is cool.

Ive never been in to the RBA route.

Kayfuns, Taifuns, Not fun for me.

I suggest you go somewhere like Fasttech... Buy a Mech mod that ships next day... try it copper... Like a pagasus clone. And a Vulcan RDA clone. Or Zenith. Or one of the other ones. And buy an intellicharger. and an ohm meter (one with built in battery i think is best. ) . Check out for less than a hundred.

And get batteries on a site that is reputable, not Fasttech. You can get wires too. 28gauge Kanthal. Or 24, 26, All good to start. 28 is my go to for starting though i think.

And that should set you at around 120 bucks .... worst case. And Now, While your waiting for all that stuff... at least 3 weeks with fasttech, Which is not fast at all.... Go read up on safety. Read a couple posts a day. And then you should be good. and then your in the hobby.

I AM SUGGESTING YOU GO THIS ROUTE. It is a hell of a lot of fun. But again, Dont go in Blindly.

Ive been vaping since June. Started on a Halo. Moved to an MVP and then got tired of buying coils and tanks and burnt hits. Bought a mech and an igo RDA... got in to that,.... and then... It was all great from there. My Mvp... is somewhere in this house. Probably still with a tank on it half full of juice... hahah.

You can run a kayfun on an mvp. Just go with 29 or 30 gauge wire so it has the oomph to light up the coil quickly enough.

I really love my kayfun though. It's my first rebuildable and I Love the flavor it hits I guess maybe I just.. See the amount of cloud some folks put out and I feel like.. Idk like I am doing something wrong? Right now my kayfun is on a lavatube 2.5

I'm vaping my kayfun 3.1 with a 3.4 ohm 28 gauge coil on my vamo5s. Sometimes at 10 watts, but I tend to turn it down if the tank feels hot.

I have a mech with a kick, but I don't use it; only ued it a week to make sure everything worked; it's function is really for backup.

Get a Fuhattan,Tobh all your other supplies prob cost around $100 for bare essentials ohm reader,wire etc. $130 for all you need precision screwdrivers,flush cutters etc. $130 If you have a Harbor Freight close by the precision screwdrivers(2 sets) and flush cutters less then $15. Ohm reader you can pick up at a vape shop or online for like $15-20 Wire and cotton $15 Fuhattan $40-60 depending Tobh or Plume Veil (easier to build on) clone $25 or less

Who cares if other folks are blowing bigger clouds than you. If you are avoiding cigs all together then you're doing fine in my book. If you wanna go the cloud chasing route that's understandable just consider the advice in this thread and do all the research necessary. However if you're going for cloud chasing then the Kayfun ain't gonna cut it. I actually agree with tj99959 that the kayfun benefits from being ran on a regulated device.

Perhaps you should do some reading to better understand mechs. I don't see any practical advantage unless you intend on buying a rda and operating above the limit of your current device.

The trick with mechs is that it takes a little work to get the coil running the way you want it. On a kayfun you're probably going to end up draining the tank repeatedly trying to get the vape to where you want it, whereas if you were to build like.. a 1.1-2.0 ohm coil and control the wattage with a regulated mod (vamo 35w for example) you'd be able to get pretty big clouds while not having to build a coil, drain the tank cuz it's not producing enough or it's burning too hot, rebuild, etc.

If you want to go dripper though, and you want big cloudage, then yah a mech can work great. You CAN do it with a regulated though.

My Kayfun Lite is sitting on a Nemesis 18650.


1.4 ohm 28 gauge (7 wraps) in cotton. doesn't blow clouds but it keeps me off the stinkies and happy. I like the solid feel of the Mechanical and put the 18650's on the charger at 3.6 volts.


No longer in fear of a failed switch.

There are many regulated mods you can choose from
vamo zmax svd tesla e-lvt
istick dna30 mods; oh wait; you have a lavatube? well that's all you're going to need to start with; it's not like you need something else.

A kayfun has a much bigger fog chamber and chimney than the typical clearomizer coil; it's like 10 times bigger.
That alone makes the big difference.
