Hey everyone.
I currently use a steamboat (tugboat clone, obviously lol) and I'm getting a pretty good performance out of it. But I've had it for awhile now and I'm wanting something new.
Being fairly new to rdas, I need some ideas. I'm trying to stay on a decent budget 30-40, and it needs to be able to do single coil, since I like those over duals.
Thinking about either the mad hatter mini, or the mutation v4. Does anyone have any input on these two? Leaning more towards mutation right now but still on the fence.
If you're fairly new to
rda's the Mutation x v4 & the mad hatter mini may be a pain because of the bottom airflow on both. Overdripping will cause your
rda to leak. But in that price range, check out the STRO mini & the STRO v1.
The mini has a 2 post/4 post hole design and will be super easy to build
coils on. Comes with a chuff cap and a reduced chamber with what looks like good airflow. It also has a honeycomb to prevent spit back in the chuff cap. And the best part is that it sits in your price range perfectly at $29.99.

The STRO v1 has the deck of a Competition Kennedy, with side airflow similar to the Royal Hunter RDA. It's a little taller than the Royal Hunter though, more the size of the Kennedy. It also has a honeycomb in the top cap if memory serves me correctly. Also, it's only $29.99.

I have a Mutation x v4 and I honestly prefer my v3 over it. For single coil mode, you would have to plug up one of the bottom airflow slots with the silicon stoppers that it comes with and those don't really like to stay in.
My buddy has a mad hatter (full size) and hates it, but that's only because he doesn't really know how to build on a 3 post deck yet lol.
Since you want the ability to go single coil, definitely check out the STRO mini. The two post design would allow you to build one single coil directly between the posts like on a Petri RDA. Hope this helps you buddy!
Edit: I know the standard sized Mad Hatter cannot do single coil, as it only has the two AFC slots. I'm not sure if the mini is the same. The freakshow & freakshow mini have 3 airflow slots on the barrel, the third being offset for single coil. I still stick to my recommendations however. Also, check out the Mutation X v4 XS, carbon fiber freakshow & carbon fiber freakshow mini.
