I've been vaping for a long time. I started out with pens, then graduated to Zens, and went totally down the path of RTA's in both mech then Provari with 18650's. Loved them! Loved building the coils, cleaning, everything. But, after many years, the novelty wore off and I was looking for simplicity and convenience. I settled on Kangertech tanks, and have loved them since. No more building coils....which always seems to pop at the worse times.
I finally went totally simple and just started getting eLeaf 40W iSticks. Perfect for my vape. 24W on .5 coil.
Long story short, I have 4 of the same old bottom fill tanks. I love the fact I only have to get one type of coil. But I'm shopping for something new, and would still like to use the same coils so I can use my old tanks.
All my iStick (about 5 of them) are going bad, and after looking at replacement cost, I decided it may be time to go back to batteries, chargers, and a nicer device.
I just bought a YiHi XLMini SL Class with green stab wood, and will get it for Christmas.
The top of the SL Class is 28mm. I think it will look a little silly sticking 22mm tanks on it. So, the question is, "Is there a really good 28mm tank, that vapes in my range (24W & .5 Ohms) that will use the same old coils I use (KangerTech OCC .5's)?"
And just to make it that much of a more of an unreasonable request.....I can't stand the look of the tanks that bulge out like a tire. I feel like the glass will break the first time the mod tips over.....and the scratches all over on my SubTanks tell the many stories of drops and tips. But, I've only broker 2 glasses in 7 years, probably due to the "Keep Calm, Vape On" rubber bands that protect the tanks.

I don’t think you are gonna have luck finding a tank that uses those coils. You may want to get a new tank. In my opinion they’ve improved quite a bit in the last few years. I’ve been pretty impressed with mesh coils for some new tanks. The Geekvape Alpha is a good tank if you decide to get something new and I have a Uforce tank that uses freemax coils and that is another good choice.
I also enjoy the Uwell Crown with .5 coils if you want to keep using coils that ohm the same as your current ones. It’s been out for a few years so they are pretty cheap as are their coils. Good luck on your search

Newer tanks do seem to get better reviews (other than the Crown Uwell original) when it comes to sub0hm and I think mesh is like this big thing.

Here's the thing though, if you are now vaping for aesthetics, well, IDK, it may be hard to go sub0hm, totally. You may hate it.

In which case I MIGHT suggest the Crown Original because I think you can get a 1.2 coil for it along with a jillion other coils. IDK. Get a friend to help you out, if you have a sub0hming friend, etc.

To me, aesthetics are lovely, but you can also buy a bigger MTL drop in if you so desire, that is of larger size although a 0.5 coil is more on the sub0hm direction anyway so you may be just fine. I don't vape like that, so I'm not much use to you. Sorry. Good luck.

Aesthetics are important. I don't want some blinggy, gaudy MOD. It needs to look professional and high quality. Sorry, but I am a snob for excellent quality things, and am willing to pay for them. I can't stand flashy, gimmicky, cheap things.

I do like my current setup because it's relatively discrete. It's not as tall as my Provari's with RTA. It holds a lot of juice. It's easily fits in the pocket, doesn't leak, can be hidden in my hand, and I don't have to blow massive billows of vape to be satisfied. No one in the office or on a flight even notices I'm vaping. When I'm not in the office, I crank it up a bit and blow clouds. It works for me. It doesn't feel plastic or cheap. I get the satisfaction of feeling like I'm holding a premium piece of Vape Tech. It's all stainless, heavy, solid, and doesn't rattle.

I think the SL Class is along those lines and probably a step up. Yes, it will be a little bigger, but not much. It's just a tad bigger than the ZNA, which I really liked, and it will take the 21700. So, my bat life will be ridiculous, since I vape at such low levels. I guess the real problem I'm having is finding the next best Atty to top off my SL.

About every five years, I seem to upgrade my whole setup:
First it was Zen's, fully mech until the little inline boards came out make them VV. I've 4 Z-Atty's. They were great, but leaked. I keep them, SS and cotton wick, and plenty of kanthal around for when the zombies come.

Because of the leaking, I got into Kayfuns. I have 3 original KayFuns and some knock offs in a drawer. They were better, but there's still some leaking when the vacuum seal is broken...I fly a lot for work and air pressure wreaks havoc on the vacuum.

With RTA's, I vaped @ 2 ohms & 3.5 volts. That setup was good and didn't burn through tons of juice, but due to the leaking I finally found the KangerTech SubTanks. Initially I was suspicious of devices where I didn't make the coils, but I grew to like them. They are solid, SS, didn't feel cheep, and they didn't leak. I've been happy for another 5 years.

Now I'm in for another switch. Waiting on the new MOD. The SL Class really looks nice (you could say "Classy"), with the Stabwood, but the form factor doesn't match my existing Atty's. Do I need to just suck it up and go back to building my own coils again? Is that the only way I can get a 28mm "non-bubble" Tank? What's the best new 28m RTA out there? Have the leaking issues sorted themselves out? I'm sure the coils everyone makes are different too. I use to use Kanthal Ribbon.

So far, I've only found one RTA at 28mm (I'm still looking). You'd think it would hold more juice than my 22mm SubTanks. It doesn't.... :(. If I'm upgrading to a larger tank, I want more juice for the trade-off.

If I have to go back to RTA's, I wish there was an improved 28mm KayFun out there.

All guidance is much appreciated-----Thanks!

Okay, I spent the weekend researching, and I think I finally found the solution :)

I've been frequenting, Main Street Vapor here in Brownsburg, IN for since they opened years and years ago. This morning, I walked in an talked with the owners Dax and Michelle. They know my vaping history and preferences. After a bit of discussion, Dax agreed with me that I should probably go back to an RTA. I cringed. I really didn't want to get back into making coils, but I heard him out.

Surprise, who would have thought that in the last 5 years, everything has evolved!

He broke out his favorite RTA and said, "You'll Love This."

Apparently, you don't have to get out all the tools and build coils like I use to. He dropped on the counter a dish of .45 Ohm Clapton Coils, all pre-made. I vape my Kanger with .5's, so that's hardly a change. He also said this tank just doesn't leak.....BAHM! This could be it.

The tank is the Itake RTA. It only took me a moment to put the new coil and cotton wick on it. Not as fast as changing the OCC on my Kangers, and it's not something you can do while driving, but not bad. I filled it up, set the Watts at 24 and took a hit. WOW, this was wonderful. Definitely more flavorful than my Kangers and it doesn't seem to leak....time will tell.

Aesthetically, the tank is a Bubble tank....not a fan, but, with the rubber bumper, maybe it will last like my Kangers? (It does come with a straight tank, but I think I'll like the extra joice.) The base if 24mm with the bubble almost 27mm. I think it looks pretty dope. Check out the pics of it next to one of my old rigs.

The XLMini SL Class is a little fatter. I know it would be, but I actually like the size better. It fits into my hand better than the iStick 40W. It's very comfortable. Feels VERY solid. Not a rattle in the whole thing. With a SubTank on top, it's significantly taller than the iStick, but when I put the Intake on it, it's actually shorter. I like that. It's not top heavy and has a more stable base. Overall, I love this new rig. Looks good, vapes better and will be cheaper to maintain. Cotton and Coils are cheaper than the OCC's and vape better. I'm pretty happy

Thanks for the input guys.

I'd look around and see if there is a straight glass replacement for the Intake RTA (if you aren't a fan of the bubble style glass). Other than that, happy to hear that you found a good setup!

Looks like DHgate and Fasttech both have replacement tank packs that come with both the straight and bubble glass for the Intake RTA.

In which case I MIGHT suggest the Crown Original because I think you can get a 1.2 coil for it along with a jillion other coils.
My all time favorite tank is the Original Uwell Crown Clearomizer Tank. It has coil offerings as below:
  • 1.2 ohm Single Stainless Steel Uwell Crown Coil - 10 to 30W
  • 0.5 ohm Dual Stainless Steel Uwell Crown Sub-Ohm Coil - 30 to 80W
  • 0.25 ohm Dual Stainless Steel Uwell Crown Sub-Ohm Coil - 80 to 120W
  • 0.15 ohm Dual Ni200 Nickel Uwell Crown Sub-Ohm Coil - 400 to 600 Degrees Fahrenheit (temp control)
Being that it is an older tank, some vendors have stopped carrying it or its coils, in particular the 1.2 ohm coils. But many online vendors still carry the tank and the other coils. Just search Google.

I've been impressed with the Geekvape Cerberus sub-ohm clearomizer tank. It offers mesh coils. I'm not a high wattage vaper, and I've been vaping this at 25 -30 watts.
