Some time ago, there was a thread, and I think it was about RM2's, that had a discussion concerning treating the brass. I think SX came up with it, if I'm not mistaken. I would like to find that thread so I can pass the info along in another thread I'm involved with here on ecf. If anyone remembers that thread, I'd appreciate it if you could point me to it. Thanks.

Are you looking for a finish to keep the brass from turning?

If so another option is Cape Cod Cloth's that are a simple/easy way to keep brass/copper/etc sparkling... only takes a few seconds when needed. How I remove patina build up off my PAPS LUX's, etc.

ETA: Duh, missed the treat it. It's been another long night.

No I didn't come up with the pickling the brass to remove surface lead, but you can google it. It's white vinegar and peroxide- I just don't remember the ratios :)

That was 2 parts white whine vinegar to 1 part hydrogen peroxide.

I believe the article was posted by a beer brewer during a discussion about brass parts.

Here is one of the links I could find on it.

It would be hard to find because I think it was buried in one of the big ole microcoil threads.

From the article:
Because 98% Acetic Acid and 30% Hydrogen Peroxide are not available to the
average brewer, the experiment was repeated using the concentrations
available in the supermarket. These are 5% Acetic Acid (White Distilled
Vinegar) and 3% Hydrogen Peroxide. Due to the difference in concentration,
the relative concentration ratio is changed. For the household variety
concentrations, a 2-to-1 volume ratio of Acetic Acid to H2O2 is needed.
