I bought a SS Vamo 6 weeks ago and it's been great. I have some concerns of stripping the threads due to some of the reviews. Question is, are the threads on the SS Vamo stainless or are they also brass (?) like the chrome and black chrome/gunmetal ones? I would think if they are stainless, they should be relatively bullet proof. Anyone stripped the threads on their SS Vamo?

All three of my stainless Vamo V2's have brass 510 connectors... they're just plated. I think all Vamo's have plated brass 510's.

was going to say, from what I have found, I see no proof that shows the threads being SS as well. Its just the finish that is SS, not the threads. I dont see any reason why they would make the threads SS only on the one with the SS finish. It would (in my mind) be all of them or none of them. From manufacturing aspects, it just doesnt make sense to do ONE finish with different threading material, and all the others with something else. I dont know how they are set up over there for MFG purposes, but, IMO it wouldnt make sense.

Hmmm...so I assumed (maybe incorrectly) that the chrome and gunmetal ones were made out of aluminum (or steel) and coated or painted but that the stainless Vamo was solid stainless steel machined, therefore making the whole thing stainless steel. Is it even possible to take an aluminum tube and just put a stainless finish on it?

Wait, are we talking the body here or for the 510 connection? Because I have been talking about the 510, though, i assume the body is just a different finish as well. And is it possible? IDK, how is it possible my HK sporting clays O/U has CF barrels? They arent, but they have the finish to make it appear so, half the reason I wanted that gun. I havent been at a single major shoot and not had at least one person comment on it and how they have never seen one like it.

This is a photo of a SS head. The damage was done with an ordinary pair of cutting pliers (dikes). Definitely brass, as you can't do this to SS with ordinary pliers. You can also see the brass coloring. I've also disassembled all three of my SS Vamos at one time or another and noted that the back plate showed scratches in the brass. I'm quite certain all Vamos have brass 510's.

threads in the 510 connector? looks like SS to me, just scraped it with a knife and still see silver.
but out of two vamos now(one a v1 brass) i dont understand how people are stripping them to begin with, maybe everyone doesnt know when to quit tightening.

They dont get stripped. The 510 connection gets opened up wider at the top from dropping with something attached to it. when it lands with a carto tank on it or something it bends the opening of the threaded area. I happened to mine. Im sad i had it for over a 1 year. I too would like to know if the ss vamo has ss threads. if it does i will buy, if not no thanks. I am not buys anymore chrome anything, finger prints and scratches and wears down too easy. stainless steel or brass all the way man.

I also would like to know what is under the chrome on the vamo v1 or v2. any thelp. thanks

It's brass .

thanks buddy. so i have a brass sigelei and i love the brass. Since i ruined the finish on my top cap pulling it off the vamo with pliers(socks dont work to protect the cap lol). I was thinking of removing the chrome and refinishing the brass with some sand paper and possibly polishing. I read somewhere you can soak the chrome in coke and other various household stuff to remove it. Is this dangerous. will this create chromium VI or anything. I certainly dont want a chromium Vi covered coated vamo.

I was gonna try and take out the old stripped 510 and try and replace it with an ego 510 i have taken apart already. And if that wont work i was gonna take the vamo guts and make a box mod.

any suggestions would be appreciated. Seems your the vamo expert around here
