OK so here's the deal. I quit smoking back in August, 2010 and have been vaping ever since. I'm slowly cutting the nic content as I go. However, because I was a VERY heavy smoker before, I tend to vape all day long. I burned through as much as 6-7ml in a day.

I know I vape more than most people do but I'm sure I'm not the only one.

I prefer to use atomizers with cartridges. I tried cartos, but was not at all satisfied with them for various reasons.

I primarily use 510 mega (XL) manual batteries. I have DSE, Joye and a few others in my collection. All perform to about the same standard.

Here are my issues:

1. I've tried different atomizers at different levels of resistance and typically I get the same result. 2 days of solid performance, 1 day of tolerable performance, and then it either dies completely or is so weak that drawing on it gives me a headache.

2. Cartridges are great for the first hour. Then, the liquid does not flow like it should and I find myself adding 2 drops or so with such frequency that I can't be without a bottle of liquid.

I'm looking for suggestions from people who seriously vape all day long. Burning up an atomizer (typically Bauway 2.5ohm), 3 cartridges and 15ml of juice every 3 days is not making this a very cost-effective solution, which leads me to believe I am doing something wrong.

Any help would be most appreciated.

Atomizers need cleaning and dry burning, especially for a heavy vaper at higher watts, like you. What juices are you using, are any of them dark? sweet? Those will gunk an atty even faster.

Read this post for one way to dry burn. It is harder to do on standard 510 batteries, because the battery doesn't go off right when you release the button, it sometimes stays on a second too long, which is plenty of time to "pop" a dry atomizer.

There are lots of other posts on the subject, good Luck!

(I'd also suggest a mod, or "fatbats" like a Riva,or eGo, 1.5 ohms is pushing the limits for 510 megas. You'll also love the longer charge life.)

I do try to clean and dry-burn. The atomizers I've been using lately have been able to dry-burn with no problem. They are Bauway 2.5 ohm.

I use a 60pv-40vg mix on a nic-flavored liquid. It is relatively clear and light (I know some of the dark-syrupy thick ones will kill an atty faster).

I have contemplated switching to a Riva or eGo but frankly I'm concerned about having the same issue.

I see other people getting months out of an atty on standard 510 equipment. Even vaping at the rate that I do, I'd think I would get more than 2 days.

I vape that much liquid a day and use drip tips instead as well as bottom feeders with VV and a Provari and a few other Mods tanks and such, once that Atty performance dwindles a bit blow it out and crank up the voltage a bit to help burn off the gunk that builds up, that seems to help mine out

Maybe you are burning enough filler to compromise the atomizer performance? I am kinda grasping at straws, but I get weeks or months of dripping up to 4ml per day on similar atomizers, have never had the issue you describe, and not fixed it with a dry burn.

How do they go out? resistance climbs too high, or the draw gets too tight, or the flavor goes off?

You're right, its not gonna fix the problem.

Killing an atty in 2-3 days with any regularity sends up a red flag imo. Something isn't normal there... I go through 6+ml of juice a day, and I chain vape all day, I don't kill atties nearly that quick. Something is definitely amiss.

I second the recommendation on getting a Riva/Ego type... it isn't just the added battery life that's a benefit, it's needed for those 2.5ohm atties. Standard, even mega batts just won't cut it. A Riva starter kit from Liberty Flights is only 30 bucks. Well worth it to know for sure they can handle the atties.

The other thing to try is a different brand of atomizer. I use two kinds of atties... Cisco 306's which I use on my Riva (1.5ohms) and Kingwise 510's (3.3 ohms) which I use on VV devices.

The Cisco atties are expensive. 8 bucks each or 2 plus a drip tip (required) for 20 bucks. Shipping is cheap, they can be found at avidvaper.com
Why I recommend these: They give the best performance I've ever seen, by a large margin, and last a long time. 2-4 weeks no problem. They are only for dripping, and you have to be careful not to let them get dry, but if you follow directions, they're going to last you and perform like a freight train.

The Kingwise atties are dirt cheap. 64 bucks for a 40 pack shipped from China. Arrive in ~2 weeks. These won't vape as strong on smaller batts as they're higher ohm, but at $1.60 each you don't need to worry about the cost so much. If you ever invest in a variable volt device, this is a killer deal.

Another cheaper option to check into is the filler you're using in your carts. It's been a while since I've used carts and filler, but if the filler is not wicking properly, that could also be your problem, and would be the cheapest easiest fix.

I was wondering about the filler too. If you are still using the stock filler that came in the carts then just know that vaping at the rate that you do they are going to mat down and not wick or absorb juice well at all and that's why you would have to be constantly topping off. They would also get too dry too fast and could possible contribute to burning up an atty. If this is the case, please go to a pet store and get some blue aquarium foam filters and then steal a few coffee stirrers from a nearby restaurant. Cut the foam to size to just fit in your cartridge (not tight, not loose) slide a small peice of the coffee stirrer straw down alongside of that cut to sit BELOW the edge of the cart and with an angled cut on the bottom. Now fill with juice til just slushy looking on top and give that a try. Hope this helps!

I prefer the new Clearomizers and the CE2 R4 cartomizers. They have no filler and so far I have not had any problems. I use to use the Joye and Boge cartos, for me I will not go back to cartos.

Another new product is the Ego Tank system. I picked this up 2 weeks ago and love it. I primarily use this for when I am out and about because it fits nicely on my ego.

Cloudsofvapor have the Clearomizers and the tank system.
